No it's not unlikely. I'd have thought, seeing as self protection seems like a civil liberty? It here somewhere, can't find it now though. ACLU donated $10,000.00 to get 114 passed.
That sucks. Talk about a double standard. I think they deserve a shame on you letters from anyone who is pleased by the other civil liberties they pursue or ever donated. You can't be for just some civil liberties. It's funny, I do think they have done some gun rights cases in other places and submitted Amicus briefs on the 2A side in the past.

They have, but by and large the ACLU has moved to a selective interpretation of the civil liberties they'll support. There has been a hard cultural pivot there, and it's unfortunate.

From the ACLU website:

"ACLU Position

Given the reference to "a well regulated Militia" and "the security of a free State," the ACLU has long taken the position that the Second Amendment protects a collective right rather than an individual right. For seven decades, the Supreme Court's 1939 decision in United States v. Miller was widely understood to have endorsed that view.

In striking down Washington D.C.'s handgun ban by a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court's decision in D.C. v. Heller held for the first time that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms, whether or not associated with a state militia. The ACLU disagrees with the Supreme Court's conclusion about the nature of the right protected by the Second Amendment..."

Which is hilarious as much as it is horse pucky in that the BoR is about individual liberties, not collective.

The ACLU has never taken a 2A case, or supported it in court filings. They've always, and still do (they contend Heller was wrongly decided) maintain that 2A is a "collective right." They've never seen 2A as being the right for an individual to be armed.

One of the reasons I stopped supporting them back in the 90s.

Since there's a distinct lack cases of the feds trying to disarm the national guard, or whatever the left says the "militia" is, for most of their history they've had nothing to say about it. Post Heller they've arguably come out AGAINST the right, saying the SC got it wrong.

ACLU should have been all over this ballot measure.
I was at the ACLU website a few years ago. Lots of talk about some of the Bill of Rights, but not one word about the second amendment. Principles yielded to politics. The same people who protected Nazi rallies in Jewish neighborhoods and pornography as "freedom of speech" ignored censorship of true news and cancellation of right of self defense.

Hmmm...they, along with other minority communities, should contact the ACLU and sue. This M114 BS would be over in less than a month and never to be heard of again.
I think they will likely find themselves labeled as far right wing white supremacists: "thou shalt not disrupt the harmony of the echo chamber with non conforming thoughts"*

* applies to echo chambers across the political spectrum

How I read it is, these poor, poor marginalized humans will CONTINUE to be marginalized and discriminated against by being disallowed a fire arms permit because of their evil, sinfull, disgusting chosen lifestyles.
Yep - and because of the failure of some of these 'marginalized' humans to accept the guilt they may have over their chosen lifestyles they are now using 114 as another way to force more acceptance of their 'lifestyles' into potential rulings and laws, adding to the minority rights they have been fighting for.

Rose focuses her efforts on sales and training for LGBTQ+ and black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC). She said she and her friends were initially drawn to guns out of fears that grew during the Trump presidency.
What 'fears' is she specifically referring to?

Well, how I read this is a fear of increased persecution and prejudice toward those in the LBGT community and SHE and her friends see guns as a potential defense to their lifestyles because they obviously fear what they see as continual oppression aimed at them, so now they are taking up arms thinking they can force acceptance of them.

This is not about them protecting themselves against crime or other threats but as a forced threat against conservatives, or any others who might be opposed to them and their 'lifestyles'.

They are in a way representing themselves as a 'subculture' that demands their own rights and laws - and believe they they can enforce them with deadly force.
