We estimated our Guess based on someone elses estimate of something they had no way to determine.

Are China's 40 million firearms including the Military's? Cause I doubt there's a lot of private owned guns in China.

It's all B.S. based on conjecture. "We took this estimate and that estimate."

As they say, "Statistics can be Skewed for anyone you want Screwed." :p

Ya it doesn't make sense with the numbers. Each state has just about on gun per person so we know that since most gun owners have more than one the numbers must be guestimation. Plus even if those were recorded sales people move alot in the bad economy and the guns change hands more often. Yep its probably BS but still fun to read.

A certain amount (perhaps a healthy amount) of comfort should be felt in the belief that nobody really has any earthly idea what really exists in this country. The government can hardly keep track of government property and money; they have thieves "inside the wire".

There is evidence that even Thomas Jefferson had concerns about the corporate coziness and power of the Continental congress; a good number of American citizens have not exactly been laying down with the lions/wolves all these years, if they have, I doubt they have been getting much sleep.

Lets assume Cali and China have 40 million guns each. There are over a billion people in China. Cali a small fraction of that. So the per capita ownership is several orders of magnitude different.

What is the point of this list?

This website is a real estate blog. It is not any kind of professional news organization. The people who created the map work in real estate.

The methodology they used is totally flawed,as you have pointed out so clearly. For example, they also compared Oregon to England, simply by the fact that the estimated number of guns in each is about equal.

However, Oregon only has a population of just under 4 million people, while England's population is just under 54 million.

So the two really are not at all comparable. Even assuming that their estimates on gun ownership are indeed correct, the per capita gun ownership ( which as you have pointed out is what really matters ) is clearly 13.5 times HIGHER in Oregon.

So compare Oregon to England? Its absurd.
