Hmm. You know, I thought I remembered the show being called "Paladin", but it was indeed called "Have gun - Will Travel".

Paladin was his name. I don't remember the show from my childhood, but have had an opportunity to see a few episodes.

Yes, it was the name he went by. He was "A soldier of fortune in a savage land", specifically a soldier of fortune for good, which is pretty much what a paladin is.
