Recycling is great we do it here both with reusable materials and composting.
However this is the wrong way to get people to recycle. In a city I lived in before we lived here
the city knew you cant make people do anything including recycle. So what they do is each week they pick a random house and check to see if they are recycling and if you are recycling recyclable materials you got a 75.00 gift certificate for a local restaurant located down on the water front. They had huge success with it and for 300.00 a month the city helped it be fun and educational. They didn't hire Recycle Nazis geees WTF ? I know we are in the midst of socialism, but really our garbage too. I also see that is a form of invasion of privacy being the public is paying for that service its yours until you hand it over to the refuse people. I am sure they are or did pass laws saying the receptacle is theirs once it at the curb, if that is true then you are no longer responsible once they take possession.

Ok, seriously...is anyone surprised?
This is Seattle we're talking about. The same city that signed a "violent gun tax" on every round of ammunition purchased...and next door neighbors to the idiots who think a "gun drop box" is a good idea.
The same state that ranked #40 on Guns&Ammo's "Best States for Gun Owners 2015." http://tinyurl.com/qa4sy2a

Just saying!!!

I used to like visiting Seattle, I also used to like visiting Portland and SanFransisco.
You could not pay me near enough to live in those cesspools . All these cities are dumping grounds for antigun trash.

I visit Seattle for about a week at a time 1-2 times per year for work. Never been a big fan and I can't see myself ever living there. It's over rated if you ask me.

I've self-hauled our trash for years. We never used to recycle, but then I realized just how much of the bulk of our trash is recyclable stuff, and it's FREE to dispose of. So we started sorting out all plastics, glass, and cardboard, and it literally halved the number of trips I make in a year. Since I rarely hit the minimum-maximum for weight with the household garbage loads, this means I probably spend less than half of what I did before. Definitely makes sense to recycling, for us.

As to laws on such things.... yes, it's stupid to have laws that affect private citizens like that. I think the laws should come at the corporate level - make the garbage company sort through the trash and pick out the recyclables - if they don't want to, they'll incentivize sorting for their customers. THAT'S how change should be affected.

But here's the thing - it seems to come down to laws. We hate them, yes.. but it's just always what it comes down to. We have to use sustainable practices here on this rock out in space. Our resources are limited. It's just plain SMART to re-use already processed crap than make new processed crap. Why the hell wouldn't we take that fairly simple, pain-free step, especially in the face of much harder steps we'll need to make in the future.

Yet people just stubbornly refuse.

Just dont wanna.

No problem bubbleguming this whole planet up for everyone else. Jus' dont wanna.

Well then, bubblegumface, laws are coming. You sure showed us.

"sticker warns that more than 10 percent of their trash content should have been recycled or put into compost bins."

Is that by weight or by volume?
Does the city provide locks for the trash containers to prevent somone from adding recyclables to your trash?
If you are going to be fined...will they store the rotting stnking evidence for weeks and then allow independant analysis if you want to fight it in court?

Liberals and their use of the hyperpbole; "more than 10%'". W.T.H. does more than 10% mean?

This policy of going through trash to enforce compliance is just another example of the slippery slope (intolerence) that goes along with the liberal (inductive & unconstrained reasoning) vision.

I think recycling is a great idea. We recycle as much as we can. But push me, and I'm likely to start dumping everything in the trash, just to spite the 'trash' that pass these laws.

Honestly, what do these people have against personal choice, liberty and freedom? Would they really rather live in a world where the damn government dictates every frickin' aspect of their lives? I just don't get it.
