Question About Our Current 'Phone In' Background Check

Is the current system an across the board 'Federal' system or is it a State only operation? Please advise. Thanks.

Federal law requires that background checks be performed. Some states allow dealers to go straight to the FBI, as it doesn't cost the dealers or their customers any. Other states, like Oregon, have developed special units, in Oregon's case, in the State Police, to perform the background checks. Thankfully, the system has gotten better recently with the start of the computer background checks. They still cost ten dollars, and that is annoying, but it's nice not to have to spend hours on end with your ear glued to the phone, especially on gun show weekends...
