Before anyone takes me to task for my above statement...
No I did not vote for Harris...and I am glad she did not win...we would be far worse off for 2nd Amendment issues under her.

With that said....
I haven't voted for anyone who I liked and trusted for president , since the Perot / Stockdale ticket of 1992.
While I have always voted , any vote since then has simply been a vote against the "other guy " ...or against the worse choice of two bad choices.

My 1st time I was legally able to cast a vote was the 2000 election cycle and my perspective at 18 was quite limited but I remember thinking Bush was a far better candidate than gore but that was about as far at it went and we all know how that turned out. Dept of homeland "security " anyone?
I guess my point is I haven't been voting nearly as long as you have @Andy54Hawken but I feel the exact same way, hold my nose and vote. I remember the 2A community was shouting from the rooftops in 2016-17 that trump was going to "legalize" suppressors and do away with the NFA act, how'd that turn out for us? Obviously we are unburneded by what has been but I am also firmly in the wait and see camp!

Oy, you too? For the last three days I have been fighting a nasty winter cold. I call my wife and children "the little vectors" because they all three go to school everyday with that cocktail of bugs. (Actually I am fortunate not to get sick often, but this one is not pleasant.)

A LOT of gun owners did not want him to win. If they had gotten their way she would have. So now of course nothing he does will be a positive to those who have TDS. When you ask them if they really think 2A would be better off if she had won? They change the subject and go back to the TDS lines. They can not be reached.

I will believe that something positive has taken place when the ATF is defunded - e.g., when DOGE kids walk in and basically shut them down. Even then, the FBI could easily take over enforcing the laws on the books - that might be even worse than the ATF.

Congress needs to repeal many of the laws regarding firearms. A good start would be to pass the HPA or something like it.

The ATF is just administering the law. Shut down the ATF ( not possible anyway. Alcohol and Tobacco are two of the largest excise tax sources) or at least just the firearms part of it and you cripple the administration of dealer services and the NFA system stops. Give it to the fBI? You think the FBI with 10X the staffing is going to be better? I'd much rather deal with the ATF than the god damned FBI. Unless congress changes laws and EO cutting firearms funding will throw the whole system into a coma . No NFA approvals, no dealer licensing etc.

I also think it is OK to criticize the person you vote for.

I think if you vote for someone, I feel a responsibility to criticize them for things that I feel are not right. All of us understand that the the second amendment gets it's authority from the document it is a part of. The following words are about people instead of a document, but does anyone not think the lesson also applies when it comes to upholding 2A vs other parts of the Constitution? It's a reasonable decision to put the 2nd at the top of your list, but let's not forget about keeping an eye on ALL parts of that sacred document.

Indeed. That clunker has been around since 1989 and needs to go away as it really messes with what can and cannot come into the country. And it would be easy to remove, yet, nothing so far.

That would probably hurt his friends with big Gov contracts. They see that in terms of $ imo, not 2A. But just guessing.

Yes it would. As far as WA and OR being "low hanging fruit" it seems to me that getting the easier ones done would make it easier to go after CA with precedents set in WA, OR, and other.......

The 89 ban was largely put in place to protect US arms makers from foreign competition. Theres a reason Smith and Wesson, Colt and Ruger supported it. Especially Bill Ruger. He was down on his knees like a dog.

Agree. That's how those usually work. I remember some senator got a law pushed through that banned import of camera lenses of a certain focal length and some exact weight like <8.26 and >9.34 oz or something ridiculous. It was made to eliminate the competition from good but much cheaper lens(es) that woudl have hurt one of his donors/friends. Politics is crap.

My guess is that local government will ignore it just like they ignored the EOs cancelling DEI and Sanctuary Cities/States. I also expect the TDS sufferers in local government to double down or over-react purely out of spite.

It took the death of Bill and many years before I would even consider buying a Ruger product. I'm over it now, but it took a long time.

Agree those were the dark times. Couldn't even get a decent sized mag much less many of the guns I wanted. That horrible time influenced me ever since. Guns and mags I want are purchased before the ban, even if it feels like not the ideal thing to do timing wise or whatever.
