Knowing our states systems, he will be theone that ends up in prison.

Finding out who is buying from the thieves is critical to slowing the theft of converters. It is similar to reducing auto theft by targeting "chop shops." It is much more practical to attack the choke points in the system than the diffuse criminal element that conducts the thefts.

This assumes a will to act by elected officials and law enforcement.

WOW!!!! That was a decent story from local media. Unbelievable. The only thing missing was the gal calling out the feckless mayor and each city council member separately for their dereliction of duty to the people of potland.

We are averaging about 5 calls a week of customers wanting to bring in their recovered stolen car. Just a few years ago it was less than 1 per month. This is getting ridiculous.

Local company has had 3-4 converters stolen from their lot in the past 2 months and that is just Ford products….
We have two converters on back order for customers with no release date.

Here's the rock salt video. The thief's accomplice sprayed him with pepper spray before he shot the accomplice in the face.

Read this tonight.

"Nationally, the data is even more startling. State Farm says claims for catalytic converter thefts have increased 1,171% in a two-year period. In 2019, the company paid $4.6 million for 2,535 catalytic converter theft claims across America. In 2021, it paid a whopping $62.6 million for 32,265 claims. And that's just a snapshot of the problem from one insurance company. It doesn't account for other companies and for people who are uninsured." KPTV Fox12 Portland - 3/11/22

And for the crazy rate of stolen cars. In Portland alone over 10,000 cars were stolen last year. I would guess a 25-50% or more increase in that for this year. Because even if they are caught and released 10 times before their first court date it won't even slow them down. They can't be held in jail until their court date and the huge backlog means the court date is a long long ways away. That's if they get caught, which by itself is really rare. Citizens taking action is literally the only way to slow them down.
