That used to happen to "high cap" mags all the time behind the wire in Kalifornia. When I lived at Lake Tahoe people were losing 'em by the truckloads. It was bizarre.

Something similar occurred during the AWB where a 'friend' got hold of a bunch of Law Enforcement & Military Use Only marked 30 rounders for a smokin' deal....
 
I often wonder if full auto were as unrestricted as semi auto if they would be popular enough to become "common use".

Something banned or heavily restricted can never become popular enough to be protected to begin with.
