i have a 23" 357 Maximum barrel on my Contender and always wished for a lever gun in that caliber, now maybe i can have one. if anyone would try the 357 maximum in a carbine length barrel they would be impressed. 200 yd deer gun for sure. this new cartridge looks very close to max. the 357 Max is dead as handgun round so Remington couldn't very well re release it as a rifle round, so blow out the 30 30 case and Viola new and improved 357 Max.
Actually, the 350 Legend is closer to the Maximum. I checked. :) I had a 10.5" barreled Ruger SRM 357 MAX.. It's one of those guns I should have kept, but I don't really miss it. Anyway, the 357 Max is a neat round and I'll bet it would rock in a 20" barrel. My 41 Mags picked up about 500 fps in a 20" Marlin over my 6.5" Ruger.
I didn't have a chrono when I had the Maximum, but I loaded them hot.

Either way, the Buckhammer looks like it would be a great woods cartridge.

maybe you missed "new and improved"

i have shot 357 maximum in 10.5"Ruger. 10" 14" and 23" contender. you could say i have a true love for the Max. i have read much about the 350 legend and was impressed but i already have 357 max reloading gear so i have to stick with it. actually my 23" 357 max will beat the 35 rem. in velocity and energy. 180 gr. at over 2300fps. i haven't tried 200 gr. but will when i can find some.

I grew up around the paradigm that you hunt deer with a .270, and elk with 30-06 was borderline and something .30 or bigger magnum was good.
Pfft, children.
In my day, the '06 was 👑KING👑 and the quintessential EVERYTHING load was the 180 gr. boat tail.
To paraphrase an old saying; Deer, Elk, Moose, The Enterprise, it didn't matter. With an '06, Ye shall equalize. o_O

Same straight wall cartridge laws also specify a maximum length that prevents use of some common old cartridges. like 38-55 or 375 Winchester.

I haven't seen a need to add any new cartridges to my current lineup, my newest being around over 60 years.

OK without new cartridges every year we will have nothing to talk about and ridicule one another about. so new old style is in. nothing wrong with that, if the new does a better job so be it. if bigger is better why don't we all use 50BMG? i for one am a GUN NUT i like old and new, mostly old.

I haven't found any SAMMI dimension drawings on the 360 Buckhammer. Was wondering if it could rechamber a 35 Remington chamber. If it could and a reloader kept his loads at proper pressures it would be helpful to those who can't get 35 REM components.

Smaller body diameter then 35 Rem, same as 30-30 near the rim. 360Buckhammer-Drawing.jpeg

You got me thinking how old the rounds are, that are shot by the guns in my gun case and I think the newest one is Dad's ol' .270, and that round is almost 100 years old.
I think the 12 gauge dates much older than late 1800's.
