So long as all you are doing is shooting lofted birds - that is, birds in the air, sure. It's an older-style shotgun in that respect. So long as they are not game birds out of season, of course. Verminous birds are vermin all year round, and all you need is a general license nowadays, and, of course, somewhere to shoot. No walking around the countryside blasting away here, y'know - somebody OWNS all of it, of that you can be sure.
Punt guns are STILL used on the Norfolk Wash, Essex marshes and estuarial flats all over UK. Up to 2" calibre muzzleoaders!!!
