I'd take California over any state in the south or especially the Northeast . I'm from there originally and my family has been there since it was a Republic. The gun thing doesnt bother me much. I can still do conjugal visits..
That's crazy.
California over the Carolina area? Or Nashville? Lol!!! Only place I could briefly deal with in Cali is maybe susuanville or nearby.

I think Arizona is a beautiful state. It is, however, turning blue. They just elected a democrat senator who was on video calling Arizona "the meth lab of democracy" and was on record supporting Americans who go overseas to fight for ISIS.
Truth! Arizona is in big trouble. But some people love dirt and excessive heat.

I lived in Arizona for 7 years up by Prescott.

Surprised that so many people don't realize that Arizona is more than just desert.

Oh yeah. Those gated communities around every medium to upscale neighborhood and security patrols in the Carolinas and especially Nashville are there for a reason. I grew up in South Carolina and was even offered several jobs in the area including a very good one in Charlotte that paid more than the Fresno job. The weather sucks with frequent hurricanes , snow and high levels of property crime .

Really?
I didn't know that.
But we live in the country always. I'm not as concerned about city crime.

I think what people are missing when I say I am moving is that I am moving for a job and that jobs arent always where you want them to be. Of the job offers I have received over the last few months Fresno was the best choice in regards to weather, crime , wages, cost of living, good schools and the availability of affordable housing in good neighborhoods. Its a balance. If I took a job making half what I do so I could live in small town yokelville I'd be really unhappy and my wife would string me up by the balls.

I've worked for the hire paying career my whole life.
Money is good to have. But I'm at a point where money is just money.
But good for you.
We have to do what's right.
Speaking of Money.
The IRS wants me to write them a check for more, $42,000. So I better get back to work!
Criminal

That's cool
How's the job scene though?

I was never out of work. I worked for USAA insurance as an auto claims adjuster and made pretty good money. When my wife wanted a divorce, I quit that job to get ready for the move back to Idaho and worked for Ruger as a CNC operator for a couple of months. Was a really interesting job.

Prescott has one of the highest per capita concentrations of rehab centers in the country. So good if you are a mental health professional. Bad if you don't want your crap to get stolen...

I can feel the hate coming down already. Yep. I'm moving to Fresno. Taking a job as engineering manager with a hugigantic winery. 24 million gallons in cooperage. NFA stuff is staying up here so I can visit it sometimes. The rest of the CA legal stuff is coming with.
Man, it is a zoo, my cousin almost got killed by a van full of Illegals merging on to I5, no insurance ect. I lived there for 18 yrs. I am so glad to get out of that bubblegum hole. Pelosi and Harris are bubblegumting on the Citizens there as we speak; and will be you too.; bad choice.

You came from Fresno?

Alright so I had one more interview and I only did it because they paid for the ticket already. Went out to Charlotte this weekend. What a great town. The South Carolina suburbs of Fort Mill and Rock Hill are amazing. Great neighborhoods, schools etc. Thousands of houses in "theme neighborhoods" with all colonial or antebellum themes. Like a Disneyworld sort of thing. I told them if they want me they better bubblegum or get off the pot and give me an offer by Wednesday 'cause otherwise I'm moving starting this weekend. The Charlotte job is a little idiosyncratic though. $100K plus 10% ( of yearly gross ) bonuses per quarter if all the KPI numbers are met so potentially $140K and the cost of living there is cheaper than Yakima by far. They tell me theyve had payouts for the last 4 years straight. But its still weird. If they can act fast and want me they have a good chance. Otherwise I'm hauling stuff to Fresno starting Sunday.

I gave notice at my job that I would be leaving on the 22nd so I got fired by email on Friday and was told to drop my stuff off at HR and they'd pay me till the 22nd. In a way I'm offended but I don't know why since they're paying me to sit at home. I'm calling it funemployment.

What do you do and how do I get into it?

Its never too late. I didnt get an engineering degree until I was well into my 30's and I was a high school dropout prior to that. Never have gotten a license but I dont work as an "engineer " per se.. More of a project management/ facility/ maintenance management sort of thing for me.
