Join the #1 community for gun owners of the Northwest
We believe the 2nd Amendment is best defended through grass-roots organization, education, and advocacy centered around individual gun owners. It is our mission to encourage, organize, and support these efforts throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming.
The road (6.8 miles) up from the Big green bridge, Clackamas hwy, has been open all season. It appears you can get to the other pit from that road, as I see vehicles going past the first main pit all day.
8 miles from the Hillockburn road side (after the main road turns to gravel) there is a gate that was closed this Saturday around 11:30. I'm not sure if there is a way around it on the back fire/logging roads. It messed up my plans to cut through though. No one was at the upper pit though. a very pleasant, relaxed morning with the .22s
Just past the big pit the road forks. There's a smaller spot about a half mile to the right. I've also shot at a small spot about a mile and a half to the left road.
Totally clear as of 2 days ago. No precip since then. it does get a little frosty in some patches but it is completely passable in a car. no 4wd needed.
You won't have any problem. I went up Tuesday and the snow wasn't bad, there was much less snow on the way down after the sun had hit it for a couple hours. It was nice up there. I did some good shooting with the new 2lb triggers and no wind.
Drive slow during the pavement transitions and washboard gravel. I hit one just right at 30 MPH and knocked the battery out of it's tray. I didn't know it until I got up there and tried to restart the truck, not even a click and no cell phone signal. Oh bubblegume. Battery was fine it just broke a small wire loose. That would have been a long cold walk.
