Prob more like stimulus paid for it. My wife and I got $2400 between the two of us, and I found a tree removal company to take out our 30' Golden Willow (it is such a messy tree and it's roots grow above the lawn) for only $800. Then, I ordered Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT tires for my Dually... 6 tires for $1297. So I will have $300 left over to put towards a used Ruger 22/45 Lite.

Tools... we don need no stinking tools!! Must be an 80%? Are you building the upper too?

I put together an 80% for my daughter in Ark and then had a 16" PSA complete upper and a scope shipped to her. She installed the bolt carrier etc, put the upper and lower together, mounted the scope, then had her hubby show her how to sight it in... How much fun that would have been to do together!! ENJOY!!!!!

He got a job as lead safety inspector for a large commercial construction company. I guess that stimulus probably came into play somewhere but knowing my daughter she put that in the bank for a rainy day.

We are going to do a 80% er. And yes we are going to build the upper as well. I am really looking forward to the time together with family. It won't be the most top end AR but I did make him spend more on important stuff like the barrel. He ended up with a 223 wylde which should be good for anything he does with it.

I think the only thing he has left to buy is the charging handle and the BCG.

I really like my Wylde barrel. I got an 18.5" SS spiral flute. The only prob is... it is HEAVY. Def not a tactical rifle except for long range, but I bought it for target and varmint.

What barrel did he buy?

If I am not mistaken it was the Radical Firearms AR-15 match .223 Wylde with the gas system. Found a decent deal on optics planet of all places.

It was difficult finding some of the parts. A lot of the places I normally shop were sold out

IMO, the Radical Firearms website sucks. I could not find barrels for sale, and when I clicked on the "Rifles" tab, I got pics of handguards... not very intuitive.

Finding parts... I didn't realize there was a shortage. Not surprising if I think about it.

Didn't use there website. bought it from optics planet. I usually find better deals through other vendors who want to move them than going direct to the source.

On another forum I frequent.... there's this one guy who truly, well and absolutely believes the .270 Win is the end all, be all cartridge for everything from jackrabbits to grizzly bears (some embellishment added to emphasize his fervent belief)....
So... what exactly does the .270 Win do that other cartridges doesn't do? yes I am talking guns

Actually, up to elephants. I'm sure if there were still dinosaurs, they would be taken too.

It is flat shooting, medium recoil, and good energy. My reading over many years indicates that the cartridge has taken every big game animal on all the continents. So there's that.

There are also many fans of the 6.5Swede... traditional cartridges seem to have a pretty good following.

There are plenty of older cartridges that do the job, with class. Many hunters get comfortable with just one cartridge/gun and they will use it for all their needs. The 6.5 Swede does have a good following, as well as 30-06, 7mm Mauser, 45-70, and my favorite, 25-06 (1928). The newest rifle cartridge I own and shoot is the .300 Winchester Magnum (1964). Anything developed after that is just a fad.

I'm about to start my first 80% build/s. I picked up several lowers and a jig kit from Broken Armory.
Two will be 10.5" that I have most of the parts for and for the third I'm thinking about a 7.5" barrel with a Law Tactical Gen 3M folding stock adapter for a packable long gun.
BTW, all are 5.56.

Its a great round but I wouldn't call it the be all end all. I wouldn't be afraid to take a Elk with it thats for sure.

Never shot a 6.5 Swede. 30-06 is venerable but meh. 7mm Mauser IMO is underpowered. 45-70 = artillery round. 25-06 never appealed to me because of heavy bullet bias and more recoil than 243. And 300WM hurts too much to shoot at the range.

Newer developments... I probably will never shoot a 6.5CM even tho my daughter's BF owns one. Not that I don't want to... but I'd have to buy ammo and I'll just stick with my reloads for .308!
