Anyone here have any newer 300 or 338RCM's to post? At one time I thought about buying a left hand 338RCM. Those rifles look so handy....

Not the best picture. .243 purchased over 35 years ago. Still in the safe.

This picture isn't any better. Guess I've never taken a picture of just the rifle.

I just picked up my first Hawkeye. It's stainless steel in 270 win! I was looking for a 243 but found this guy and was happy. I put a Leupold vx-2 on it and waiting for an opportunity to sight it in if anyone needs a friend to tag along I'd be happy to come along! I'll take a picture of it a little late when I get home.

snarlingdog; if you handload, you should try RL26 and your 150gr. pill of choice. I've settled on the 150gr. nosler partition for a do it all bullet in my 270 win. The velocities you get with RL26 is phenomenal. My 22" fwt is pushing the partition at 2920 fps average.. Good luck with yours..

I'm weird that way. A lot of the guys on another forum I visit are known to be "rifle loonies". We take pictures of our rifles, even when we aren't having luck in the field...:D

I've owned a few Hawkeye's. They are excellent rifles. Here's a 308 win that was fun to work with. It started out as an all weather with a synthetic stock. I later did a stock swap with a .223 rem I had laying around:

After putting the walnut stock on the 308:

Hey, it's still an "all weather" rifle isn't it? ^^^^^^^:p

Of course, the stock had to be properly glass bed to the new action. I also sealed up the barrel channel with about 3 coats of tru-oil:

Here's the 223 rem Hawkeye that my buddy talked me out of. Apparently his target/varmint model was too heavy to be a good "coyote rifle", so we did a straight across trade. I painted the synthetic stock for him and applied a little texturing for him:

He loves that rifle and I'll tell you what. He wasn't giving much, if anything, in the accuracy department:

He's happy, the yotes aren't....:p

Now I tote his old .223 rem when I go yote hunting

Win win for both of us. I still don't like the 2 stage trigger in the varmint model though. A skilled guy can rework the old MKII and Hawkey (LC6) triggers and make them damn fine;).

I looked long and hard at the Ruger .338 offerings, and decided on the Alaskan in .338 win mag! Easier to find factory performance ammo, and it loves handloads! The .30/06 Guide is available in .338 Win Mag too, been awfully tempted in picking one up for the Wife, She really loves the quick handling and the built in muzzle brake and factory irons make it a super fine rifle, and the .338 would give her a hard hitting round for these BIG AZZ Rocky Mt. Monsters we have here!:)

Ura-Ki, that is a damn fine looking 338wm you have. Probably one of the nicest I've seen. As you might know, I'm a die hard Winchester model 70 (mainly pre 64) guy. My main elk rifle (besides my m1917 30-06), is a custom pre 64 model 70 sweetheart. If I didn't have that one, I'd be trying my damn best to find a ruger just like yours!!!!!! You better hang on to that one, or if you ever decide to let it go, look me up...:)

Thanks BSA, I sure do love that Ruger, there is just something special about this one, I knew it the instant I saw it and held it! I also love the Pre 64 Winchesters AND the FN Brownings, Heck, any nicely made rifle from pre Remington 700 era gets a smile from me. I need to dig it out of the safe and get some pictures up of my Winchester Mod 54 and while at it, my Remington 721, both are sweet rifles that sadly never get used any more:(

Bought my first M77 in the late seventies. A .30-'06, it is a tack driver. I've sold it and re-bought it a couple of times. Ironically, I've not shot it in over 20 years. It's so buried, I can't even get to it for a photo-op.

I'm now fixated on stainless. I've owned plenty more M77's and MkII's over the years, in multiple calibers, but now I'm down to four of them. The one above, plus a .223 sporter, a .223 Varmint, and an Ultra Light, in .30-'06.

.223 Sporter on the left, .223 Varmint (it's a tank) in the midle, and the Ultra Light '06 on the right.

The Ultra Light .30-06 (bottom) is wonderful to carry, but compared to a sporter, it doesn't have much meat in the barrel. It's a bear to sight in. Any heat to the barrel, and the groups go crazy.

WAYNO.

.25-06 M77 Hawkeye in satin stainless with boyds pepper laminate stock and a 6-24x50 vortex pst. So fast it's 1 for 1 in the kill department. 20170402_184917.jpg

I have another one that looks a lot like the last one I showed.
This "other" one was posted up for sale here already in a Hogue stock and with a bunch of ammo. I struck a deal a few days after reading the ad and brought it home. It looked like someone had tried to shine up the stock and I just wasn't happy with it. An olive green Hogue with the proper barrel channel was the replacement. A complete teardown and a trip through the blasting cabinet, just like the last rifle, gave the finish I was looking for. A left over lighter weight trigger spring seemed like a nice thought so I used it when I put the gun back together. Around 4 lbs and not too much creep, it's no Timney, but it's alright. The Leupold VX-R from my '06 slid right into place and I was ready to go.
When hunting season rolled around and my '06 wasn't ready I carried this "other" one.
It's a 300 Win Mag

FYI, it's for sale.

Alright, here's another Ruger I used to own.:p

I don't have any before pictures, but here it is after I had it cerakoted graphite black. I also had the same smith jewel the bolt body. I think it turned out very well, considering how crappy it looked when I got it:

It also shot very well for an old tang safety ruger too. Of course, this was after I glass bed it:

Sometimes I kind of wished I would have hung on to this old 300WM...

I love a good project and this Ruger looked like a fun one to do. You sure did a nice job with it.

I've let loose of a couple of Ruger rifles I wish I'd kept. Guess I shouldn't sell one ever again. :s0163:

Very nice. Magnum Ruger, very cool. One of my "used to haves" was a Hawkeye African in 375 Ruger. That was a bunch of fun.
