La Pine pickup theft suspect surrenders, day after leading DCSO on chase, prompting manhunt, shelter-in-place alerts - KTVZ
A La Pine man suspected in a pickup truck theft and police chase in La Pine early Monday that led to a manhunt and a day of warnings for area residents to shelter in place surrendered to Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and was arrested on several charges Tuesday evening.

The part I have a problem is with this:
As deputies were trying to take the man into custody, he left in the pickup, crashing into several trees and other objects as he fled, the sergeant said. Deputies later found the stolen pickup abandoned near Brooks Lane, as the suspect had fled on foot.
If he were 'crashing into trees and other objects' it seems this would dramatically slow him down and offer a better chance of stopping him, as opposed to the LEOS essentially loosing him.
Obviously I was not there but knowing the area it is heavily wooded with narrow dirt roads, rural housing and the Little Deschutes as a barrier on one side. My point being this wasn't a straightaway chase on something like I-5 at 120 MP.
Because of this I would think this would give the LEOs a better opportunity for more 'aggressive' methods to try to stop the guy, yet he managed to escape.
