Just got an idea in my head

I've got another idea to modify one of my three Marlin ever guns.
On my 1894 .44 mag and my wife's .357 I added added Williams receiver sights and removable red dots.
Now I'm finding that my Marlin 39A is getting a litte too heavy, and it's impossible to find a Mounty model.
So I'm thinking about cutting the barrel shorter.
Thoughts ?
