I just thought I would throw this out there in the hopes that somebody knows of a good/professional job/jobs in Bend or Central Oregon. My wife and I are planning on moving to Central Oregon the beginning of February and the position that she had lined up, fell through this weekend. She has a 4 year degree in PR from UofO and has an excellent work history. My background is in commercial construction and construction management. It seems like nowadays its not what you know its WHO you know. So if anybody has a line on a decent paying position, please let me know.:s0155:

Thanks for reading this! Looking forward to possibly meeting some members from CO and doing some shooting! Cheers!

Are you dead set on moving, like have no other choice? Bend and Central Oregon have been hit way harder then the valley by the economy. I wouldn't even think of moving there unless I had a solid position lined up. Either way, good luck to ya! I'd love to live in that area of the state, get a nice large chunk of land away from it all. Bend's unemployment rate is at over 12% and construction was one of the areas hit hardest.

@ Rufus, thanks for the link. I appreciate it!

@ DS, yeah we are pretty committed, we both HATE how much it rains in the Willamette valley and my job is ending in a few weeks. We have been debating this for over a year and finally decided that is the area we would like to put down "roots" buy a house, raise some chickens, raise a small family of AR15's,1911's and maybe a few foster revolvers! Thanks guys!

I wouldn't of thought that you get that much rain at the north pole.

Bend is a nice area to live, the economy took a big hit there, not a lot of new construction going on there certainly less then in the valley, all I hear of is remodel and repair work.

I envy you that you have means to make the move. Good luck.

My brother lives there & we co-own a restaurant there that he runs, full time. He regularly has people come in that were making 40-80k a year a few years back looking for any type of work in our place....I would suggest not going if at all possible, until you have something lined up. Bend is pretty much a service industry town at this point. Yes, its a beautiful place. But hang on in the valley until you have work lined up brother...once spring hits here (June!) you wont be so down on the valley!

Bend being a service industry town pretty much sums it up these days, between the rich californians and the slat rats about all there is to do is take care of them. good jobs in the timber industry have been gone for years. lots of housecleaning/landscaping/foodhandling type jobs. some tech jobs and now and then some good construction jobs. but to get some of the better jobs you almost always have to know somebody. i bailed from central oregon over twenty five years ago. i will go back when i am done working, i love it over there.

I totally understand that. I just bought my first house and am thinking in 7-10 years I'd like to head over that way and do the same. Good luck to you and the misses and I wish I had some magic connection to help you out, but I don't.

Ok this is probably an obvious suggestion, but have you tried checking the jobs on World's Largest Professional Network | LinkedIn

I would really advise you to make sure you have something lined up for work before you just move to Central Oregon, Our job market is really in the crapper and even those of us that still maintain jobs cannot rest assured that they will still be there tomorrow (we are currently lucky to work 3 days a week as orders are currently low). I have worked at the same company for 24 years making Doors and Windows and when the economy went south I was laid off for nearly 5 months, during that time I was activly looking for other work, Trust me full time living wage jobs are hard to find in this area and even if you do find somethig your doing well to just get an interview, degree or not. I was lucky and was called back to work so I was able to keep my house and cars and still survive even though it was still necessry to file a chapter 13 to do so. Our wages have remained the same for at least the last 4 years with no cost of living increases but still it is considered a good job as it is much higher than min. wage. My wife also has a job that pays well in the Pharmacy field and still it's hard to provide much over the necessary things. 4 years ago we had a lot of equity in our house, Today it is our hope that in 5 years time we will be able to sell it and break even or make at least a small profit on it so we can get out of this area. Oh and also, just incase you dont find work be aware that vacant street corners for pan handling are hard to find, most all of them are allready taken. I wish you the best of luck in moving to Bend Oregon, Im sure the guys at U Haul might still remember how to recieve a rental truck even though most of their business has been sending them out for the last few years!!:s0114:

YEah it will be tough, we do not doubt that one bit but we are hoping and praying that something will come through. We will NOT move if we dont have something lined up as that would be extremely foolish! There are other factors that have also affected our decesion that I wont get into but its more than just the weather that we would like to escape from!
Thanks everybody for your input, I reallize it going to be very difficult for awhile, but thankfully our bills and expenses are pretty low. No kids, child support, new car payment, etc etc.

Good luck with your move. It's nice to see good gun people move to Central Oregon to balance out the influx of anti-gun liberals (sorry, but that's a true statement in C.O.). If you're looking for a construction job, you can always try contacting the Central Oregon Builder's Association. They ,ay or may not be able to help you, but at least its a starting place.

Personally, I have to spend at least five months of every year (and last year it was eight) working elsewhere so I can go home for a few months. But I understand the desire to move to Central Oregon. After living and working all over the country for the last ten years, I would love to be able to find a living wage job in Central Oregon. But it will be another nine months gone again this year...

There has been little commercial construction, Redmond built a new High School, I think they finished it last year. Warm Springs Telecom opened today, and they just finished the Casino it opens on 2/4.

They had the ground breaking today on a new City Hall / Police Dept. in Madras The winning contractor is out of Bend. The paper awhile back claimed the hospital in Madras, got the funding for a new one and put it out to bid. Good Luck,

Well, we made it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are now official residents of central oregon! Money is tight and we are penny pinching but it sure beats where we were at and we are so thankful to be out of the valley and ! Looking forward to possibly meeting some fellow desert rat members!!!:s0155:
