Canada has pretty much lost the war for gun rights, but they won the battle to get rid of the federal long gun registry, mainly due to public perception that the registry cost too much money to maintain with little or no benefit. Unsurprising though that each province is trying to see about creating their own version, after all if there's no registry they can't send in the swat team first if they get a call from a gun owning household.
