Just thinking about it, makes me a nervous wreck.
Has anyone had this procedure done, who can give me some insight?
First and foremost, I don't like doctors in general. So that's my biggest hurdle at the moment.
Second, finding a doctor that 'knows" WTH they're doing, instead of "practicing.

Any insight,
Experiences, good and bad,
What doctors in the Olympia, Tacoma, Seattle areas I should consider going to see.
I'm sure it will take an appointment with my PC to get a referral.
I need to get the ball rolling, so I'm all ears.
MAKE ME NERVOUS

MAKE ME NERVOUS

Had an abdominal hernia corrected 3yrs (or so) ago and it was a smooth experience, been good to go ever since.

I haven't looked into any specifics, per-sei to know what mine is referred to as.
It protrudes from the belly button, mainly when I pick up something, cough or sneeze.
Lately it's feeling like a pulled abdominal muscle (left to right) below the umbilical.

My uncle had one done, up and running in no time. My neighbor had one as well, was back to 100% in a month.

Sounds like a fairly minor one should be an easy fix.

I've had this thing coming on for a few years, growing ever so slightly, but increasing in size.
All the past things I've heard of the "mesh" not working, and the lawsuits littered all over TV by the greedy lawyers, that's what makes me so nervous.

Better to get it done earlier, the younger you are the more resilient you are--a hernia that went ignored for years, or more precisely the complications of surgery for it at 84, is what put MacArthur in the dirt.

Good luck, bro.

Few years back I tried to stop a large ring from rolling off a shop cart. Felt a pop on my belly. Just to the side of my belly button. In the next 24 hours I had a golf ball size bulge. I tried to ignore it.
Nope kept getting bigger

Went to my doc, he referred me to a specialist. I told the specialist it keeps growing. So they got me in right away. Had surgery within two weeks.
In and out same day. Healed up nicely within two weeks. Avoided lifting anything heavy for a couple months.

What kind of repair are you having done?

abdominoumbilicus (sp?) repair. It is pretty straight forward repair. Biggest concern is whether the mesh holds and if the surgeon uses the proper gauge and type of thread. I do not know your physique but nylon chromic gut type sutures are what big guys should have. A few factors come in play. Inquire about the mesh and research it well.

Lawyers will take something successful for millions, and sue over failures of a handful.

Absolute negligence aside, the practice of medicine today is extremely safe overall as a whole, when population and general (poor) health is taken into consideration.

Think on what your outcome and quality of life will be if you take no action whatsoever...

Best wishes to your better health, and as calm as possible.

I'm 6ft, 170lbs. The average typical gut for a guy near 60ish
In my past training, if I recall correctly, a 4-0 chromic is best used (absorbable) versus plain (non-absorbable) for your physique, roughly. Hernia repairs are not too complicated; complication namely arise from patients doing strenuous activities too soon after the procedure. Follow your recovery plan as outlined. And ask questions!!!!!!! Very important!!

You aren't "typical", most American 6 footers are overweight 250 pounders and above..... I'm in my mid 50's, 6' @ 205lbs (sometimes 210lbs during the holiday season, LOL) with ZERO overhang or love handles.... sounds like you need to start hittin' the Twinkie's, guzzling soda, pizza, 7-11 burritos, and watch more TV with beer and potato chips!

BTW- I'm qualified for, and carry $2M worth of life insurance on myself... so I must be doing something right. ;):D

Yeah, I know I'm making more of it than needs be.
Like I said early on, I'm not very fond of doctors beyond my Primary Care Physician.
Colonoscopy, been there.
Hernia, about to have been there.
Hemroidectomy, back in 1973, I was sitting on a wet stump for several mornings while hunting. Was my first year.
A squirrel scared the beejeezus outta me when he climbed that stump.
I know I scared him, cause he was so mad, I swear he took the hemorrhoids with him!! LOLOL!!! :D

Had a belly button blow out 6 months ago, fixed at Kaiser Permanente in Bellevue by beto, took two weeks off work(lots of lifting and straining at work) but only needed pain meds for 2 days.
