Hard to say. The older one's were notorious for the frames literally rusting completely through. Then the next gens had terrible towing capacity and were basically meant for buying groceries and looking cool. And the new ones are fugly beyond belief and WAY overpriced for what you get. BTW, I also own a 2002 4Runner (wife drives it) and have been really impressed with the truck.
You know, saying Tacomas are horrible and following that by saying you're really impressed with your 4Runner is an interesting argument. Hell of a pivot. Captain of the debate team?:D

Anyone here that can fix there own head gasket besides me? o_O

Just because I can does not mean I want to.

If we are talking Ford / Chevy / Mopar V8's, then hell yeah, that is fun recreation for me, and results in a greatly improved engine. Anything else is what independent automotive shops are for.

I got a 351 Windsor sitting on a pallet waiting for my new shop in Central Oregon in a year and half to be finished. Nothing like a V8 on an engine stand, some great rock music blasting and a suitable beverage close at hand to pass the day or evening with.

Another con of the Tacoma is that it's a lot harder to jack it up a foot and a half so it'll fit 40+" tires, need a 12+" drop bracket for the tow hitch, and require 4 parking spaces.
