I've never used a holding contraption of any type to clean my weapons, other than a (relatively) flat area (and NO, not the top of my head!) my two hands, and sometimes holding a barrel between my knees..... LOL

BUT!! Thanks to this thread I got a bug in my ear and came across this (with AR magwell block) on Cabela's through "Gun Deals" (formerly Slick Guns), for $52.24 shipped (after veteran discount, etc).

Looking forward to FINALLY getting my knuckles off the ground... since I'm getting old! ;)

I was very close to getting that one, but cost was a thing at the time, hence the cheaper MTM version, that still looks good though.

That Tipton "Best Gun Vise" arrived today... not too shabby, gabby!

It has compartments to hold small parts, tools, and misc. materials.

It came with an AR15 mag-well block to securely hold your kit for cleaning, building, etc.

The AR15 mag-well block has a couple of useful features..

1.
It will securely lock in and hold the bolt so you can remove/install the ejector.

2.
It has this black plastic hook that swings into place to buffer the hammer so you can dryfire without damaging the lower.

It also works nicely with more "conventional" shaped weapons...

And the best part is... the wife approves. :D

Wifey and I make our Christmas lists and let them lay somewhere. It makes it so I can know what she's been looking at and may want that I'm not aware of. It works pretty good. Last year I put a "Tipton Gun Butler" on my list. Nothing is said about the lists we just get what we can and it makes a good surprise on Christmas morning. I guess my hand writing is not the best, or the fact that she's natural blond to the root, there was some confusion.

I can only imagine the counter guys at Sportsman's Warehouse, or Fishermans Marine trying to help her. She finally figured it out on her own though when she googled "Tipton Gun Butter" and it corrected to "Butler"!

There is such a thing as gun butter too, so she wasn't that far off.
Purchase Gun Butter

She cracked herself up so she made the butter package after she got the Gun Butler. It was a good laugh. The Gun Butler works better that laying the gun across the dining room table on pads and news papers. I am little jealous of Stompers set-up though.

I've got a plastic Tipton gun vise, but it just sits on the floor collecting dust. I use my guitar/woodworking vise for the guns. Here's a pic with the Ruger PCC in it; the rotating wood jaws make it easy to clamp odd shaped items. If I were cleaning, a towel would go around the firearm while it was in the vise.
