That was my favorite war movie for a long time, even though I wished I hadn't seen it for the first three days after I saw it. I found the roulette scenes very disturbing. One more….

Deer Hunter was a movie like Play Misty for Me that has very calm and serene opening scenes that makes the story that follows that much more shocking because I didn't know what was to come later.
I saw Apocalypse Now after I saw Deer Hunter, and Deer Hunter made the horror of Apocalypse Now seem mild by comparison.
Eventually I rated those movies as less favorites than nonfiction movies like Enemy at the Gates. Besides, Enemy at the Gates was about snipers!![]()

Robert Duvall was great in it.
Japanese officer speaking to his superior:
I bought, "The Siege of Firebase Gloria", and you see a guy using the M14 in the early scenes of this movie. I know they were using M14s for training in the movie, "Full Metal Jacket" but once the men are deployed they are using M16s.I love many of the big production war movies listed by some. But the one I never get tired of watching is The Siege of Firebase Gloria. It starred R. Lee Ermey and is based on a true event in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. A lot of action from the beginning to the end. Many military techniques and scenes in this movie. Recon, tunnel, ambushes, securing firebase, medical nurses, helicopters, Fragging, interrogation, atrocity and of course, drug use. Check it out if you haven't watched it yet.
Joseph Conrad and movies just reminded me of nostromo mini series. Saw that in the 90's and I see it's on YouTube. Some shows that I saw a long time ago don't age well and can seem "sappy" nowadays though. Maybe I'll watch it again to find out. Colin firth was one of the main actors. Not a war movie although set in the context of the island's civil war.One of my favorite books is Steinbeck's The Moon is Down. There was a film adaptation produced during the war (1943). I recall seeing it years ago, but my memories are faint with respect to said. Regardless, I found it whilst traipsing about YouTube this evening. (Wife and I went on a weird tangent this evening discussing the aforementioned author's work, The Grapes of Wrath in particular, whilst making and then consuming fajitas.)
