The Way back is a pretty decent movie based on an excellent book ...The Long Walk.
The movie is worth a watch..and the book is definitely worth a read.

I read the book, one of my favorites, years before watching the movie. The movie and the direction they took it deviated enough from the book where I really couldn't enjoy it. Especially the ending.

I will agree that it was a pretty good stand alone movie, though at some point it clicked that we were watching very graphic deaths of children.

Not a "War Movie" per se, but does take place In the Iraq war and based on a true story. Taking Chance, starring Kevin Bacon as Lt. Colonel Michael Strobl is about his experience when he volunteers as the Honor Guard for PFC Chance Phelps. Done in such a way that we get to experience the care and honor of this experience through him and the impact of those around him. Very well done and maybe a few tears. May the Almighty ALWAYS protect and bless our soldiers.

Another good war movie is Lone Survivor.

It is based on the 2005 Navy SEAL mission 'Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan where four SEALS got separated and caught behind enemy lines.

Recommend as well. Particularly to watch around Memorial Day.

Also the 2012 movie "Memorial Day". The room will be dusty, albeit for differing reasons than "Taking Chance".

There are quite a few I like, the most recent I watched while donating platelets at the Red Cross was '1917'.

My favorite line comes from 'In Harm's Way' when Kirk Douglas tells John Wayne, that it's going to be a 'Gut bustin' Mother lovin' Navy war". I also enjoyed 'The Enemy Below' with Robert Mitchum and Curt Jurgens.

I spent 1973 through 1979 in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club, so I'm a bit biased.
