DEATH INVESTIGATION - LAKEVIEW, OREGON

The Lake County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of Oregon State Police (OSP) Criminal Investigations Division detectives from Klamath Falls and Bend, are investigating the death of a Lakeview man while he apparently suffered a medical emergency after being taken into custody during an OSP contact in Lakeview.
On January 22, 2014 at approximately 11:06 p.m., two OSP patrol troopers on patrol together contacted a 44-year old Lakeview man in the Safeway parking lot at 224 North F Street in Lakeview. During the contact, the troopers found the man, who is a convicted felon, was in possession of a pipe containing suspected methamphetamine and a knife. The troopers took the man into custody for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon. The man was handcuffed behind his back and transported by OSP to the Lake County Jail.
After arriving at approximately 12:14 a.m., the troopers were walking the man toward the jail when he suffered an apparent medical emergency. The troopers started emergency medical care until relieved by medical responders from Lakeview Disaster Unit.
The man was transported by Lakeview Disaster Unit ambulance to Lake District Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 12:45 a.m.
The man's name will be released later today. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, to determine the cause of death.
Following the release of names, future information releases will be coordinated through the Lake County Sheriff's Office. No other information to be released at this time.
