Agreed! I don't want to volunteer some one, but maybe one of our well written members would give it a once over! @etrain16 @Stomper @3M-TA3 would be steller at it!
Give it as good simple turn of phrase that any one can understand, and further no one can despute, should stand on its own!
JMHO!

I don't mind giving it a look over, but for something this big, it needs to be reviewed by folks with extensive experience in writing legislation - people that know what to look for, how to say things and how to make it very difficult to challenge, if at all. I'm afraid ballot measures and legislation aren't exactly my bailiwick. But I'm happy to lend writing talents if and when needed in other areas.

Be careful with having FFLs collect signatures. When the signature gathering happened a few years ago Bloomberg gave money to a non-profit for folks to go in to FFLs to verify where the signtaures were being gathered. I guess with where the petition is located inside a business and if employees help that it can cause signatures to be invalidate by the AG.

There is 115K Members in the Oregonians Against "Assault Weapons Ban" facebook page.

And I agree, If we have an actual initiative, something tangible to get behind, it will be much easier to get gun owners moving.

I don't know how many of those folks are registered Oregon voters, but it would be a great way to gather a lot of signatures very quickly using the electronic form - problem is only one signature per form - that's a lot of paper to turn in. Still, if even half of those folks signed and agreed to get 2 others to sign, you'd have all the signatures you need, and some - just off that one FB page.

I'm really excited for you guys. All the impending unpleasantness was starting to get me down. It'd be great to see 2A protected and solidified in my old socialist home state. My brother is still there and I'll be sure to pass the info along to him.

I came across this from Jo Rae Perkins, the Republican candidate for U.S. Representative, district 4 in Oregon. It's similar to something being proposed down in Arizona as well.

Just in case you did not see my Counter Attack to IP 43, please see below.
I am working on the Petition filing paperwork. I will need 2 more Chief Petitioners. If you are serious about helping, please send an email to [email protected]
Thank you very much. ~ Jo Rae Perkins

I suggest a counter Petition - That would negate IP43 -

"No laws shall be passed with regards to the style or type of firearm any legal person in the State of Oregon may legally own.
Nor shall the size of the magazine, nor the type of grip be banned in the state of Oregon, nor any attachments, including sound suppression, nor any parts to make firearms.
Nor shall any person be compelled to register or surrender their firearms, nor shall any person in lawful possession of 'large capacity' magazines, be required to register or surrender them.
Nor shall any attachments which are approved by the ATF be banned or registration thereof be required. In consideration of the requirement every elected or appointed official in the State of Oregon be required to take an Oath or Affirm they will uphold and protect both the U.S. and Oregon Constitutions.

"The passage of this measure is in full agreement with: The U.S. Constitution, 2nd Amendment to the Bill Rights, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." and Article 1, Section 27 of the Oregon Constitution :"The people shall have the right to bear arms for the defence [sic] of themselves, and the State, but the Military shall be kept in strict subordination to the civil power[.]"

Naturally the text would need to be refined. But I think it should be written and filed immediately. Take it to the gun shows. We will get 1,000 signatures immediately. Then get more than 88,000 for the November election. This is doable. We can complain, rally and take no action, or we can look at this type of action as well as other tactics which I explained yesterday in my live video. If you are looking for a Candidate who is going to take action in DC to protect your rights, look no father than Jo Rae Perkins. Your financial contributions are welcomed! However, I am not posting this because we need finances for the campaign, I post it because I am 100% American and will and do stand up for our Constitution.

Now, wouldn't it be interesting if this could either be a ballot measure this coming November, or even be official legislation earlier than that...

Get some!

I think that has something to do with paid vs non-paid signature gatherers. If paid is selected, non paid can still collect them as well.

However, if non-paid is selected, they run into trouble having signature sheets in a place of business. Or somesuch.

There was a very nice write up on such just recently by one of our members.

What would be even better - if this ballot measure got all the necessary signature and got on the ballot and the other one failed to get the necessary number of signatures. That would be nice

I'm in. Just a lesson from the left - don't overreach until you have just the right opportunity. Don't make this so encompassing that you lose votes.

That's the big issue - if this looks like a carte blanche 'anything goes' for gun owners, there will be considerable pushback among the voters in Oregon. And we have to recognize there are more of them than there are of us. If this were to intimidate or isolate the middle, we risk losing those votes and this fails. Still, even if it did fail, it could be an interesting bellwether as to what level of protection of gun rights Oregonians would tolerate.
