Question
Why would we run out of food,

Because all of them wannabe "Preppers" buy it all up and fill their closets. Duh! Then it will take time for it to be replenished because many people are home sick and/or dying from the virus. How much food on the shelves in markets come from out of country? What if they're sick? Ol' Mexico probably isn't known for a high tech health care system? Guatemala? Honduras? Just a couple/three of the labels you see on our produce.

Tigard Costco was great yesterday at 1:00. I almost did not stop as I saw a line outside, but a parking space opened up in front of me so I decided to give it a go. I was only outside in line for 10 minutes. They were letting in 50 people at a time. Way less crowded inside the store than on a normal day. Breezed through the isles and grabbed what I wanted. Only one cart in front of me at checkout. Paper goods gone, canned goods pretty sparse. I was picking up meat for the freezer and some other stuff.

Wasn't it weird how quiet it was inside? I think I was there about the same time as you.

The idea that this situation was made up or is a hoax or was engineered is laughable.

OTOH - of course the media makes a big deal out of it - ratings sell their product (news). For some MSM, if it makes Trump look bad, either on purpose or not - so much the better in their eyes (and I personally think he deserves it - although some of it is BS, that is to be expected).

On the other other hand, the POTUS (and his regime) downplaying it (at first at least) was a much worse disservice - one that was totally all about personal benefit instead of duty. Going from downplaying it to announcing an emergency could be said to be even worse. What we have a right to expect is competent, steady rational decisions from our so-called "leaders" instead of what we have seen so far.

The panic buying caught me a bit by surprise - but not totally - or at least the extent of it. Interesting to note that it ramped up a lot in intensity after the POTUS announced the emergency.

I was and am glad I am a prepper and I was not caught unprepared (although I now note that some of my supplies had been depleted and I did not replenish them like I should have - which I will remedy after the panic buying dies down and supplies return to the shelves).

I don't have any more room in my freezer, and I don't need any food at this time.

What I need to do is inventory my supplies - now and as they are used, so I don't wind up not noticing that some supplies are low or gone. When the panic buying passes I will be sure to buy more supplies when they are available - in quantities that are less likely to be depleted so readily.

I don't get some of this extreme need people have for someone...governor, president, priest, mommy, daddy, to tell them how they should think, or behave? Shouldn't adults of reasonable intelligence be able to consider the situation and come up with ways to cope with situations?

Nah....President BAD, he didn't say the right things according to............

Not just president bad.

Government bad.

Even though most within government are truly just trying to help out as many people as possible right now.

Normally I would agree. And if the POTUS had just kept his mouth shut and let the experts give the advice, I wouldn't complain. It (let the experts do their job) is what I would do if I were the POTUS. But the current POTUS can't do that - physically, emotionally CAN NOT shut up. That is all I am going to say on this - going to drop it here rather than get more political and leave it as an example of what 'leaders' should not do in emergency situations.

I have two ex-girlfriends that scoffed and ridiculed me for my prep attitude since 2008. I was a very good boy scout and prepared to troubled times. One ex gf is retired and single, with next to nothing in her apartment, the second, unemployed for nearly 4 years on disability and a very thin, self-imposed food pantry. She walked out of the relationship last fall.

Here is the idea; the sheep do not get the big picture, nor have foresight, while others get the big picture and have foresight. The latter plans ahead and the former is reactionary.

Just saying. But perhaps......

These people...…. Are the TARGET audience of the Dems? No need to prep. The Government is going to have to take care of us.

LOL. And, they vote. So, that means 2 votes vs your 1. See how that works?

Aloha, Mark

The HUGE difference is that under capitalism, the producers of TP have a massive incentive to resupply stores and this is merely a temporarily panic purchase situation which will easily be caught back up when people stop buying years worth of toilet paper and hoarding it.

While under socialism - the government controlled means of production and distribution of toilet paper has no inherent incentive to get TP to the customers right away.
Shopping experience under socialism (oldie but a goodie):

A woman went into a shop and saw that there was nothing for sale. Frustrated, she started berating the shop-keeeper... "I came in here last week, and you had no meat! I came in here four days ago and you still had no meat! I came in here two days and, yet again, you had no meat! I come in today and, surprise surprise, you have no meat!"

"But madam", replied the shopkeeper, "We are the shop that has no bread. The shop with no meat is next door!"
