Coasties have full authority to use force up to and including lethal if needed, and the Chief Bosun usually makes that call on scene!
There might have been a SAW on board the RIB, and if the weather was sorta ok, a helo with door gun ready to go!
But the narco sub didn't have any visible weaponry, at least not in the video shown, so again, its possible the CO or whoever, decided against sinking the sub, and went to capture and arrest
Is it also possible that the CG does have ROE that's similar to military ROE in international waters? As in don't fire upon, unless fired upon (defensive use); or fire warning shot across bow, and sink only as last resort?

Correct! If once the vessel has been hailed and refuses to stop, then that checks that box and additional steps can be taken, depending on the threat said vessel poses!

Not very likely. I am guessing they probably get a little extra comp in their paycheck - maybe $100 a month - but enlisted don't get paid much - even today. We once calculated it out by the hour and figured we got paid less than minimum wage because we worked so many hours.

When I was in the USCG they we just had designated boarding officers (had to be petty officers) on the crew - they still do on regular boat crews. They sometimes sent them to some training (I had about three 1-2 week LE training courses IIRC). If we thought we were going out on a bust (not just stumbling across something) then we usually had civil LEOs along for the ride - one time it was OSP, DEA and CGI, but the bust turned out to be a 'bust' (no drugs or anything illegal).

Today they have a specialist rating for law enforcement, including snipers (some of the best in the military) and yes, I hear they are very capable gung ho guys.

I did go to one C school with some SEALs - it was outboard motor maintenance. They showed us some movies and slides of BUD/S training - those were some baad dudes.

You know, Coasties graduated some SEALS. What are the chances he was one of these.
