I know; you get worked up when you are chasing someone down and they don't stop. Get's the juices flowing. Can't say I ever jumped onto a sub though. I did jump into the surf once to attach a line to a boat that had over turned - my last mission on the Victory, my last mission in the USCG; I was going on terminal leave in a few days.

Those guys have some shiny brass balls for sure.

What always scares me is not the amount of drugs they seized but the amount they don't and get into the US.

I wish the US would just start black ops and start using predator drones in Mexico to bomb the crap out of the cartels.

They may be millionaires and billionaires, but make them live in a cave.

They just found an abandoned yacht full of money somewhere in the south too.

That would be a good find!

The Coast Guard was trailing after a semi submersible...which apparently had about 40K lbs of drugs on it. Looks like a pretty crazy ride. :)

Story here...
Media Advisory: Vice president to participate in $569 million cocaine offload in San Diego

That was dangerous as it gets .so many things can go south . If he fell off and got hung up in the prop or the people inside could shoot through the closed hatch and he would never see it coming. I hope he is well compensated . he must have been a seal or special ops guy at one time .Undoubtedly A bad bubblegum .. It would be easer and safer and cheaper just to sink the thing.

Not very likely. I am guessing they probably get a little extra comp in their paycheck - maybe $100 a month - but enlisted don't get paid much - even today. We once calculated it out by the hour and figured we got paid less than minimum wage because we worked so many hours.

When I was in the USCG they we just had designated boarding officers (had to be petty officers) on the crew - they still do on regular boat crews. They sometimes sent them to some training (I had about three 1-2 week LE training courses IIRC). If we thought we were going out on a bust (not just stumbling across something) then we usually had civil LEOs along for the ride - one time it was OSP, DEA and CGI, but the bust turned out to be a 'bust' (no drugs or anything illegal).

Today they have a specialist rating for law enforcement, including snipers (some of the best in the military) and yes, I hear they are very capable gung ho guys.

I did go to one C school with some SEALs - it was outboard motor maintenance. They showed us some movies and slides of BUD/S training - those were some baad dudes.

That's some serious Big Ballz right there, And it's not an exception! God Bless the Coasties for each and every time they board an unknown craft at sea and risk every thing to keep us safe! Coasties Never get the thanks they deserve, but without them, we would be in a very different place then we are today!

I wouldn't be surprised if the CO ordered them to "capture that boat and everyone in it alive!" since it would be a very big political victory for the CG, and likely their ROE doesn't allow them to fire upon fleeing boats not responding to commands if not fired upon

Edit; also consider the potential fallout if it had been a private citizen's personal boat and their comms weren't working?

What if that narco sub had been equipped to explode on command, and kill the USCG and DEA agents boarding?

Coasties have full authority to use force up to and including lethal if needed, and the Chief Bosun usually makes that call on scene!
There might have been a SAW on board the RIB, and if the weather was sorta ok, a helo with door gun ready to go!
