It would seem that a lot of the reliability that comes with Glocks has as much to do with the QC that takes place upon assembly as it does with the components themselves. With all of these moving parts and parts under force, a little gunsmithing could go a long way. I bet anyone who builds their own clones (albeit not with the cheapest parts one can find) could probably have a very reliable pistol if they brought it into a gunsmith to have it tuned. There may need to be a slight bit of material removed, some springs swapped, extra polishing, etc.

I can certainly see the allure of building one's own pistol and I liken it to building an AR, which has been very popular over the last decade +. "Mostly" drop-in parts with some wrenching and maybe some use of a mallet. Most of the parts are pretty darn close to spec but you might need some extra knowledge and tools in the event that something is slightly off.

weird after about 10 minutes of fermenting on the place order screen the tax disappeared. SO anyway I ordered it. I have a Shotpile of glock braces (and other braces) leftover after i got the usW for my g34. Since its same frame size any of those will work. Cool that braces are legal again. I think it was $318 or $314 shipped with insurance. Thats .22 polymer plinker $.
Finally picked up the aim surplus Glock 22 (thx for the lead on them countrygent!). Very happy with it for the $. Very little wear. Night sights are pretty dim as expected for an older gun. Time to find some hot .40 loads and give it a thorough test! Photos before any cleaning fyi so can see what condition LE trade in might be if someone is curious.

A couple braces to try. Flux sits awfully close to your face so might not be best choice for .40 but just a guess.

A cheap clone or police turn in might be a good way to go if you want to practice some gun repair or gun modifications.
Hone up your skills on one of those before turning yourself and Mr. Murphy loose on an actual Glock or whatnot... :D
