part of liberty is the product of your work, a bump stock is the product of your work, to now make it a felony, to own the product of your legal work, that you purchased with your hard earned money based on your work, is slavery

I own a lot of stuff that people don't understand why I want or need it. And I respect and support others right to own things I don't understand why they want or feel they need it.

That's what makes it so beautiful, freedom... It shouldn't matter and I shouldn't be allowed to dictate how you live your life if you don't hurt anyone.... What does it matter if it doesn't hurt anyone? Or hurts people out to do you harm, that is also acceptable . Two way street.

I get the feeling America is slowly forgetting the value of freedom.

Is everyone so damn selfish that they can only focus on how to control everyone else's life?

If that's the case the collective deserves what comes next, and guess what the opposite of freedom is.

in WA state, there was the potential for a buyback program...which had yet to be
set up due to lack of funding. with the Federal prohibition ready to be enforced
sooner than WA's law, there is no reason for WA to fund the buyback: just wait
for the Federal ban to kick in and save a bundle of money.

perhaps, if we're so fortunate, maybe something miraculous will happen in the
form of an amnesty-to-NFA or something

Didn't the ATF allow owners of full-auto's to register their weapons in 1968 when the class 3 law went into effect? Wasn't the registration free?

I have no use for a bump stock and think they are kind of stupid myself... but I don't like what the ATF is trying to do here! Maybe this law will increase new NRA memberships.

Although I will vote for Trump over any Democrat, cough... socialist/communist runner in the next election. He, IMO, didn't do any of his previous voter base any favors with this. Liberals will still never vote for him despite pushing this bump stock ban and doing so alienated individuals who own these and voted for him previously.

I never desired to own one, but jeez, some people are amazingly dumb, even for as unimpressive as the bump stock was IMO, the physics behind it working still required the finger of the shooter to actuate the trigger each time, just with increased rate. Ere-go: not a machine gun.

In 1968 Congress authorized 3 amnesty periods to allow owners of war trophies and other full auto and destructive devices to register free of charge and no 200 dollar tax stamp. The first amnesty yielded a large quantity of registrations , but many people never heard about it in 1968 there was little TV and more am radio than anything in the USA . ATF has since REFUSED to have another amnesty period for those who did not know about it claiming "it would jeopardize ongoing Investigations" ! Many people still have war trophies hidden or buried just hoping they have another amnesty and they dont get caught. Many have been found by families after the owner dies and have been turned in for destruction. We gun owners did not get what Congress promised.
Funny thing is only 1 Registered machine gun (Might be 2) have ever been used in a crime of violence ...in the one case I am familiar with an EX Alaska Trooper used a machine gun to kill his Ex-Girlfriend. Just proves its NOT the GUN that has anything to do with crime , it is the person squeezing the trigger.

Good info! I would assume the ATF would have to do the same for bump stocks. Allow for free registration for current owners. Still very distasteful to me though.

Sadly, this is not the case. The ruling gives 90 days after it is published in the Federal Register for the bump-stocks to be handed over to the ATF or destroyed. No compensation of any kind is afforded the owners. Failure to do so carries some very serious penalties indeed.

I too have no use for a bump-stock, but absolutely support the right of fellow citizens to retain their property and exercise their Second Amendment right unfettered by such nonsense.

Not this time due to the 1986 FOPA ACT with the Hughes and Lautenberg Amendments where we CITIZENS can no longer buy Machine guns made after the date of enactment.(May 1986). You can Only own a pre 86 registered Machine gun now and thats why prices run from about $6000 to $250,000 for one. Even though it has been ruled on by a Federal Court as I pointed out previously in this thread.

The NRA supported the ban. And to junk they'll do anything about this is foolish. They make it a habit to sell your right. When was the last time they did anything for gun right that's didn't support the stereotypical "fud" mentality

Rather then destroy them I think they should be left laying around on city streets somewhere. Let them run around like chickens with their heads cut off picking them up. Why should the theft of property be compounded with the cost of turning them in. Hows the guy from Burns supposed to turn in the thing to the ATF? Mail IT heck no its a machine gun he sure can't mail it. Drive it to where Eugene during the work day to the ATF offices BULL FART Thats what 258 miles one way add a little gas for getting lost in Eugene and in the average pickup thats $100.00 in gas PLUS the lost wages for a day of work. SO just drop it on the street or road or trail some where and let them deal with it.

Screw them.

I guess it's just another piece of government BS that's going to have to ride through the courts. I swear these folks live to create havoc, just to justify their existence. And we're the ones taken for a ride every time. I don't own any, never wanted one, but I think the right to own them should be protected. Unfortunately the current adult generations don't really care enough about this stuff to do anything about it. Let's just hope they can get this in the right federal court with a good appointee that sees it our way. Not much else we can do at this point but wait out what is likely to be a several year long process.
