I fired a .357 outdoors without ear protection as a kid and could still feel the affects the next day.

I can fire a .357 mag fully power load once without hearing protection, as in hunting, without getting ringing in my ears. Even just one shot of .44 mag without hearing protection causes my ears to ring. But only for a few minutes.
