The article did a good job covering the overall reasons for the ammo drought. While it isn't ground breaking with new information it did a good job summarizing the issue.
Primary causes noted:
1) The ongoing presence of Obama in the White House.
2) The Sandy Hook tragedy calls for more gun control.
3) The resulting high demand to include hoarding.
4) The large purchases by the federal government for the military and federal agencies.
5) A shortage of raw materials used in the manufacturing process to produce ammo.
#5 was the contributing cause that I am least familiar or knowledgeable about; if the makers don't have access to enough materials they are limited to what they can produce. My thoughts are that while the makers wave the patriot flag in our direction and talk pro 2A they will first fulfill government orders for ammo.
