Today the Oregon House approved one of the most dangerous, hateful and mean spirited pieces of legislation ever introduced.

SB 719 A, the product of Republican Senator Brian Boquist's collusion with the most militant anti-gunners in the legislature, will now allow the police to come to your home and confiscate your firearms and "deadly weapons" with no accusation or conviction of a crime.

There is NO question this bill will cost people's lives.

Now a vindictive family or household member has the power to have your rights and property stolen from you simply because they chose to make an accusation against you.

"Dangerous" people will not be taken into custody. Self destructive people will receive no help.

The people who passed SB 719A know this. They don't care about people's well being. They only care about seizing as many firearms as possible.

The only Democrats to vote "no" were Jeff Barker, Brian Clem and Brad Witt. Deborah Boone was absent.

This is truly a disgraceful day in Oregon's history.

Every Republican member of the House voted against this travesty.

The bill now goes to the Governor for her certain signature.

Are y'all going to be okay over there?

It's becoming a little too close to home for my taste.

No, no we're not. HOPEFULLY it gets challenged on a constitutional 4th ammendment basis but I doubt it. I dont see how the govt can search and seize someones property without due process. Thats COMPLETELY illegal and unconstitutional.

What does OFF do? other than alert interested parties when their god given rights are stripped in direct conflict with the CONUS?
SOUNDS LIKE PISS POOR LOBBYING!

OFF sends attorneys to organize and petition against crap bills like this. OFF is the only advocate I know of in Oregon for 2nd amendment rights. They do MUCH more than the NRA or any other organization that I know of. I've personally been in contact with Kevin, boss hog of OFF, and he was very level headed and helpful in the activism that I was part of.

If you want to support an organization that actually gives a sheet about your firearm rights then you need to support OFF.

It's not piss poor lobbying by them. It's piss poor caligonians to blame for this and passive and ignorant firearm owners.

Just needs its first challenge...

Unfortunately, someone has to pay the price in being the first victim to such an outlandish government overreach for a non-existent issue...

They just want to add more and more restrictive laws without ever enforcing the ones that already exist...

This is the stuff that gives Michael Bloomberg wet dreams... He's done a fine job of not only buying out the Oregon Legislature, but the governer as well... Sad...

Where the HELL is the NRA on bills like this sitting on their wallet that is stuffed of our money
NRA rep testified in front of the senate committee. When the dems have a super majority, what results do people expect? Once the elections are over, there is very little anyone can really do except object and communicate. We have many people here that insist on voting for an independent over a republican and are then surprised that the republicans don't have higher numbers in both houses. Lobbyists can only do so much when the numbers favor the opposite party. Cry about, complain, or whatever. It is what it is.

I wonder how many oregon residents that are members here took the time to call their employees(government officials)? These people work for you don't you know.
I'm baffled that a "republican" introduced this bill without his constituents hanging him from the burnside bridge!
Complacent or lazy?

This kinda BS is why every pro-gun state needs their own version of the AZCDL

This is why. You aren't going to reason with an individual who is obviously not rational. The only thing you can do is support his replacement come election time.

Boquist unafraid to take stand in memory of son lost to suicide

Boquist unafraid to take stand in memory of son lost to suicide

Good thing the only way to commit suicide is with a gun o_O

Really sad that Boquist was unable to take charge of his own household--
All he can do now, in memory of his own son, is to introduce and get passed some unconstitutional BS law to help make him feel better that he did nothing to stop his son from committing suicide--He sounds like a very misguided man, the type who should never be in charge of other people

Boquist, Prozanski, Brown, Wiley, the list goes on and on and on...

Need to clear the vermin from the Oregon State Capital!!!!

From what I've read, he wasn't that bad before the tragedy. Now he's swinging at windmills. His core values have been replaced by grief.

I have a close friend who also lost his son that way. You have a burning need to show the world {and yourself} you are doing something tangible, appropriate or not. A conservative can become a socialist, a Christian can become an atheist.

As much as I detest what he is doing now, I blame him less than the true Marxist, which is what now permeates Salem. At least he has an excuse...kind of like being brain damaged.
