Man Detonates Small Explosive Device During Traffic Stop

October 11, 2017-- A man and a Washington County Sheriff's Office detective were both injured this afternoon when the man detonated a small explosive device during a traffic stop in Rock Creek.

On Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 3:56 p.m., a detective with the Washington County Sheriff's Office spotted a man he knew was wanted for violating the terms of his probation. The man was associated with a nearby apartment where a search warrant was being executed by local and federal authorities.

The detective initiated a traffic stop on the man's vehicle and the man failed to stop. A brief vehicle pursuit ensued and the man stopped on NW 185th Avenue just south of NW Rock Creek Blvd.

At 3:58 p.m., the man detonated a small, handheld explosive device. The detective was not seriously injured and has since been treated and released from a local hospital. At this time, we are not identifying the detective.

Other deputies arrived and took Jason P. Schaefer, 26, into custody for violating the terms of his probation. He is receiving treatment at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the explosion. When Mr. Schaefer is medically stable, he will be lodged at the Washington County Jail. Additional charges from today's incident are expected. [A prior booking photo of Mr. Schaefer from an arrest on 4/10/17 is provided with this release.]

Detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit are responding to the scene to continue the investigation. We do not expect to release any additional information tonight.

This is only 4 blocks from my place o_O wife was home - said she heard the bang then a crapton of sirens, then popo rolling thru the neughborhood real slow doing containment.

They STILL have 185 shut down at the nb ramp to 26 eb. I had to detour be going east to bethany blvd then backtrack up corn pass and enter my neighborhood from the west. Its a cluster and a half.

Hope to hell this was an antifa cuck and not some far right toon. Imagine his immediate neighbors are scared feckless. Folks on nextdoor.com seem to be going nuts about it. I just hope they wrap up their crap tonight quietly. Gotta be at kiddos school tomorrow AM for parent teacher conf and we walk up where the closure is in our neighborhood.

I am worried this was so heavily downplayed.

What the hell.

Evil seriously isn't to far from home.

Be safe out there everyone.
