What would be the test rifle and pistol one could own in the 1980s through the 1990's. Approaching this from a fighting rifle and side arm. Curious everyone's thoughts, my answer will come in the form of a picture when the rest of the parts arrive.

Looking like a Bren ten and original AUG.

According to Sonny

1911

Beretta 92

CZ75

Glock 17 or 19 first generation for the 90s

FN FAL/L1A1, either British, Belgian, or Australian.

HK91 and G3
Edit, it was the 80s. We had the Rhodesian war, and all the mercenaries, then the Central-South American revolutions/juntas/drug wars...

For the 90s, it's gotta be Colt AR or nothing. At that time Bushmaster and even ArmaLite were not as highly regarded. Budget ARs were either DPMS or Rock River Arms.

Edit. The question was "best combat duo". Gotta say for rifles in the 90s, HK is hard to beat.. particularly the HK 33 and HK 91, PSG-1 infamously. Handguns.... Dan Wesson 1911s?

Since I can't wait. Car 15 with an aimpoint and a Gen 2 Glock 19. Pretty well armed in the 90's and pretty well armed today. Even the sight is very usable but we've come leaps and bounds with light technology.

P.S. If anyone has a Car 15 stock (or repro) please reach out.
