Wife and I have been watching this on Netflix. You'll get hooked if you can sit through the first episode by forcing yourself to tolerate the British accents. It's kind of like a British version of the book The Brushfire Plague. Misguided scientist with good intentions creates a virus, bunch of people get sick and die, people scramble for food and fight bad guys, yadda yadda yadda.
The thing that really stands out to me is the difference between this and similar American shows and the way it displays the results of British gun control. In American SHTF/Zombie movies everyone has AR15s, AK47's, Tec 9''s, Uzis, Beretta's and 1911's. Whoever fires the most rounds wins. In this show in a dozen episodes I think I have counted two shotguns, two handguns and only the government has EBR's. There is not a lot of bloodshed. When a dozen people square off against each other, whichever group has the one firearm wins. There is very little you can do to defend yourself if your group doesn't have a gun and you lose your food, cars, shelter etc. When the government or other people in charge swoop with a bunch of men in black carrying black guns, your screwed. You have no chance of protecting yourself and end up as a prisoner, science experiment or a slave.
I understand this show is fiction but it really does show what will happen in reality when the SHTF.

The original series was released in the '70's and was one of the highest rated shows in Britain for two decades. It's one of the most realistic representations of life after collapse that I've found. It entails not just what happens immediately after, but addresses disease, lack of technology, beliefs that crop up and organizational structure. For those who don't have NetFlix, you can view it on YouTube: (Link in following post)

My experience with the 2008 BBC series "Survivors" was quite different. Here is the review I wrote on Netflix (I gave it one star):

"When you take a distinctly male genre (war,crime,sci-fi,etc) and blatantly, panderingly try to attract women viewers, the results are predictably awful (Pearl Harbor, Breaking Bad, Star Trek Voyager, etc). "Survivors" is a victim of this marketing plague. Picture "As The World Turns" meets "I Am Legend" but with neither good plots, nor the FX nor clever dialogue.

Boring, awful stuff! "Survivors" is a very good premise with a decent cast and adequate direction. But there it ends. The writing is AWFUL. NO good hands-on information about surviving disasters, which would have made this series really interesting. Just endless Star Trek morality tales with EVERYONE slobbering on endlessly about their feeeeeeelllllliiiiiingssss. . Paint something and watch the paint dry. It will be twice as enthralling."

But I guess some people liked it. Takes all kinds.

For the rest of us . . . well, you have been warned.

I found that series last night while cruising Netflix.. remembered this thread and decided to watch it. Watched four episodes yesterday.
I said to my gal, "If/when that happens here, it'll sound like duck season.. for a while".
I found it odd and telling when that nice couple instantly shoved the owner of that Browning Hi-Power onto the highway from the passenger seat of a speeding auto when the gal found it in his bag in the back seat.
I woulda said "Score!. this is great that we have this!" instead of almost murdering him.. it's not like he pointed it at them or anything at all.. it was just in his bag in the back seat.

Much of what the BBC is Infamous for is the result of it's Radical Leftist domination which gave rise to, and concealed the following: (This does bear on the BBC's lack luster productions)

British police have finally issued their first major report on the criminal sex scandal that has rocked Britain's TV and entertainment industry, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), for well over a year and the details are shocking.
Late BBC TV and radio star Jimmy Savile is accused of physically abusing hundreds of children--the youngest of whom was just 8--as well as many young adults whom he met through his high profile charity work at various children's hospitals throughout England.

Savile's crimes began in Manchester in 1955, peaked in the late 70's and early 80's, and continued at a lower pace all the way until at least 2009, two years before his death at 85.

The police report concludes that Savile committed 214 criminal offenses including 34 rapes or other serious sexual assaults across England. 450 people have come forward with information about Savile's crimes

At the height of his popularity and fame, Savile was awarded a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth for his charity work with children, but all the while he was using that charity work as a means to sexually abuse at-risk kids targeting most of them at hospitals such as the famed Great Ormond Street children's hospital in London.

The report says, "It is now clear that Savile was hiding in plain sight and using his celebrity status and fund-raising activity to gain uncontrolled access to vulnerable people across six decades."

Both Reuters and The New York Times are reporting that the Savile scandal is responsible for the resignation of BBC Director General George Entwistle after only 54 days in office. This, however, isn't exactly correct.

As the Times has it, "As the scandal grew, it forced the resignation of the former director general of the BBC, George Entwistle."

This claim leads readers to believe that George Entwistle was being held accountable for the Savile scandals, but the facts don't quite speak to that. Entwistle was not chief of the BBC until 2012, years after Savile had passed away.

What Entwistle resigned over was a separate incident, one no less disastrous for the Beeb, where a TV show produced during Entwistle's short tenure accused a former politician of abusing children in the 1970s. It turned out that the politician had been cleared of charges decades ago and the BBC missed that fact while researching for its sensational report.

Perhaps Entwistle may not have been forced out over one bad program were it not for the mounting Savile investigation, but he did not resign specifically over Savile's crimes as Reuters and the Times intimate.

It might not be surprising that The New York Times is not keen to note who was the actual BBC chief during the end of Savile's crime spree. As it happens, [[/U]the man in charge of the BBC during the last seven years of Jimmy Savile's life was none other than Mark Thompson, now the CEO of The New York Times.
Thompson resigned as head of the BBC in September of 2012 to take the top spot at the "paper of record" in the US where he started in November. [/B]It was under Thompson's reign as BBC chief that a news program on the Savile scandal was canceled, causing suspicion that the show was canned in order to save the BBC's reputation
.
A new report commissioned by the BBC concluded that the top executives had no hand in the cancellation of the Savile investigative TV program, but that management was nonetheless responsible for a failure to respond properly to the developing scandal.

The BBC quickly became a haven for Commies and sexual deviants after it was formed in 1922. Gays and Leftists were actively recruited into the BBC at all levels of production and administration. Concervetives were purged. In the 1970's Political Correctness had reached the point where upper management decided which actors would be employed for available roles determined by skin color and political reliability. Currently this includes incorporating at least 2 Muslims in every production. The BBC has been and still is a Tax Dollar funded Leftist/Progressive Propaganda unit, the quality of it's 'work' is secondary.

Your right, they both suck!
Top Gear is a group of Man-Boy actors doing British Reality Show Skits with cars
DR Who is an illegal alien saving feminized men from themselves with a Large Dollop of GHayness (Torchwood)

No worries, as I'm secure enough in my own sexuality to not let Dr. Who (or Torchwood for that matter) effect my world view on radical feminization conspiracy's. For that I stick to Family Court where it actually f'n matters.

"Jericho" was awesome. I'm more sad about that cancellation than almost any other in my TV viewing history. Sure, it was entertainment, but it was not typical Hollywood at all. The Gadsden flag was prominently displayed in a good light, for instance. If you could buy the premise that all communication is stopped between towns after a nuclear attack, the show was fairly realistic. Fairly.

"Survivors" was fun and and interesting example of the British post-apocalyptic genre. I was flabbergasted by the lack of firearms in the show too. There are less guns over there, duh, but there are also a bubblegum ton of military and police weapons lying around in bases and on bodies. The less than 1% that survived would be very well armed as soon as they took a swing by Hereford.

Oh my gosh, never heard of Survivor before, I just checked it out and think I got hooked. Thanks for the heads up!
