What a F'ing season this has turned out to be.

114 lingering in the background, what a cluster F!

Kids got a double ear infection and pneumonia.

I've got one ear infection and likely the flu or Covid.

Wife's got the flu or Covid, has not confirmed ear infection.

Kid and I had pink eye two weeks ago.

I haven't put up the Christmas lights as I've been bed ridden most of the last few weeks.

Not to mention sales running everywhere. Buy buy buy, but the prices are high high high!

I get excited that I spent over 1k at Freddie's last month so I can get a full $1.25 discount to fill up the wife's truck tank once.

Hope you are all healthy out there fellow NWFA peeps.

I love Christmas, but this year, I'm definitely a Scrooge.

I'm just hoping to get Christmas off this year. Had to work through Thanksgiving due to a disastrous maintenance project at work. Now we've got "Part II" starting this week. If all goes well we should be done by Christmas Eve.

My wife's been spending some of the overtime money on presents for the kids, and the rest goes to medical bills. I've been feeling pretty humbug for quite a while, but at least the kids are excited.

Being a School Dean...
I see the kids ( Most of 'em ) get excited about Christmas.
As for me....it is a good time of the year...and with the Holiday break...
It is a nice , quiet time to relax and reflect on things.

I understand that firearm related news / laws and whatnot are not the best....
However I am thankful for what I own and who I share it with.

Something to consider ....
If all you focus on is the bad news and negativity ...then eventually that is all that you will see.

Sorry to hear about this Brian. Damn man, the kiddo's sick. That's the only reason to push this crap! I have a wife child so I got to put lights up. And have a "Fresh" tree. The look on her face when I told her the cut-off was, $50.00, this year, fake tree next year. And over $50.00, fake tree this year.
I do like the look of the lights though. The hairy part with the ladder and roof is in putting them up. Taking them down, feet on the ground, is a breeze.
WTH are we supposed to do for each other when we've been together for 35 Christmas's? All the phases have past. No jewelry any more. Socks are still there. Her work pants. WOOP! We want something, we get it. There's nothing left to buy for each other. In my old set ways I have to try whatever I get for myself. And, there's been enough buying for her that didn't click and getting snuck into Goodwill bags a couple years later.

Anyway man, get some lights up around/IN the house. Anything you can imagine for Kiddo and Wife can be had on Amazon. Never have to get in the middle of all the rude ignorant people on the roads and in the stores. If you have it? The "On Demand" movies I've been looking at the last few nights has been real neat. You're a kid compared to me, so I don't know?, I've been watching the movies I watched when I kiddo's age, and older, with great delight! 1935 Miracle on 34 St. Watched 1934 "Laurel & Hardy, March of the Wooden Soldiers/Babes in Toy Land last night. What ever it was you loved when you were Kiddo's age. All these new movies are total garbage.
I'm always so damned glad when it's over! And the days are getting just a few minutes longer every day!
WOOP!!

Hopes and wishes that you guys get to feeling better fairly soon!

Given what is going on all around? I some times find myself angry. At Thanksgiving I had to again take a look. Wife and I are doing fine. She for reasons I still don't fully grasp took to me 27 years ago and I am only this side of the sod because of her. So I will celebrate another Christmas by working that night but thinking I am still one lucky bastard.

I hate this season more than most seasons. And it's entirely due to familial expectations of gifts I don't want to give or receive and jolly get togethers I never agreed to attend but am still pre committed to for the next 30 years because Mom will cry if I don't participate. Bah humbug indeed.

Side note, I see my parents regularly, it's the Christmas part I hate. I'd be happy to spend Christmas with them if there were no Christmas scent in the air.

Thanks Mike.

Typing this from the waiting room at Kaiser ER. What a cluster F. I didn't want to come, wife said I had to. Didn't want to further burden the system. Full waiting room full of people. I kid you not the triage nurse was pregnant! I felt horrible for her having to come to work during this. God bless the medical workers.

Kids also hear getting another shot of antibiotics today for his pneumonia at his doctor.

Wife got decorations up in the house right after Xmas. Including the tree. I was out with pink eye at that time. There have been some good weather moments to get the lights up but I just haven't gotten to it. I usually go pretty big. I even ordered more over the summer.

There are presents under the tree, and the kid still enjoys the daily advent calendar even though he hasn't eaten any of the candy due to being sick. He says it taste gross right now.

I really want to just sit down on the couch with the fam, watch Chevy Chase Christmas Vacation, drink some steamed eggnog and suck on a candy cane right now.

Damn man. Yep. Those expectations. Hate to say it, but it's a relief now that mom and dad are gone RE the Christmas crap. What do you get for you parents that don't need or want anything? Like me, if they want i, the go get it! When I was young tradition held that we traveled to all of mom's five sibling houses. And in turn they all came to our house. (BIG Mormon family) I had NO boy cousins my age, or anywhere near it. Plenty of dolls and Suzie Homemaker ovens though.

Are we just a bunch of real misfits?

Told the wife via text, I want a F'ing eggnog latte on the way home. Some 4-6 hours from now. No matter if it will make me poop my pants or not.

Thanks Mike.

Or? Crank up the volume and let everyone around enjoy it! :s0023:

^^^Same.

Assemble a group of people who don't like each other and someone is guaranteed to have a bad day. There are slights and perceived slights... boring conversations, competitive nonsense, and way too much money gets spent on gifts that aren't wanted or appreciated.

My day to day life is pretty good. The holidays are an imposition on my hobbies. If it wasn't for the wives I wouldn't do Christmas at all. Although I admit I might feel differently if we had little ones. I'm not quite ready to be a grandpa but maybe one day.

On a lighter note, I love New Years. It's just my wife and I at the Oregon Coast every year. We have a whole routine we do.. it's a lot of fun.

THIS ^^ is where a healthy dose of alcohol can make for interesting times! ;)

Griswald family Christmas is what gives me motivation every year.

That sucks @Reno
Christmas for me is the same as every other day. Don't even get extra pay for working it alone. Maybe one of the crew will bring me some leftovers like they did for Thanksgiving.
Personally, I feel it is too commercialized and the spirit of the holidays had a hostile visit from The Ghost Busters. They need to start giving coal out again....... All the Christmas music and crap sold at the stores makes me honestly wish they will have a circuit short out overnight and destroy it all. People say you can just shop somewhere else, but that doesn't work when everyone is doing the same crap.
I am however hoping for a lot of snow so my parents can take their dogs up to play in it. They just adopted a second dog from the shelter and you can tell she didn't have much to enjoy in her previous home.

F this sh1t. Or medical systems are so Fd up it's not even funny.

First time I've ever walked out of the ER. Going home. If I need medical care again I'm calling an ambulance.

My biggest frustration is they are not transparent about how much things will cost. You can have a procedure and think you're all done, then months later another bill shows up for a few hundred. And all the unnecessary follow up appointments.

So here's the thing. We bubblegum about the current system, but we bubblegum when anyone tries to change it for the better because "socialism" or some nonsense. Either we accept the bubblegumty overly expensive system we have or we rebuild it from the ground up but we need to pick a side.
