Gentlemen, to the best of my knowledge, the stock Smith M&P 15-22 Sport requires a special tool to get the stock handguard off. Once that's off you can install a handguard adaptor that will accept almost any free float handguard out there.

You didn't mention it was an 15-22 in title or OP, that is a different critter.
