It seems like maybe I need to tighten the mag catch so the aluminum mags will catch. It's funny though. Originally, the aluminum mags would catch fine but the P-mags wouldn't. I had to smack the P-mags a little harder than I wanted to to get them to seat. Now it feels loose.

But nothing has changed. I still haven't shot the rifle yet.

Why would the aluminum mags drop free AND now the P-mags catch just like the aluminum ones used to?

Look at the mag release button and see if the threads are flush with the button.
If not, then turn the release mechanism in until they are.
I had similar problems with my first AR.

It sounds silly but, are you inserting on a closed bolt? Not that it should be an issue BUT is the exact count of the GI mags 30 or did one more round slip in there? Download by one and see if that helps. You should be able to seat even a fully loaded mag on a closed bolt.

Ive had a few not fit that when I lost round count and was at 31.

Ill also echo what @jbett98 said, check the mag release button.

Since all of this stuff is standardized Im sure its a mag or mag catch problem.
