I don't think you really made any converts. Those anecdotal instances you used are easy to deal with in final versions of the bill. EBC is going to pass, but its also likely to be incredibly watered down in the final compromise. The NRA really needs to pull its head out of its *** and stop pushing a really lame argument that NOBODY save for a few fringe members is buying. You couldn't get +90% of people to agree on what day it is and they all agree on this. So its time to stop wasting political capital on a lost cause and to start to work (im sure they are already deep in negotiations behind the scenes) on what the final version should look like.
There is no position regarding anything that 90% of voters agree with. Background checks that effect private sales nationally have no chance of passing.

Obama has his data, and we've got ours...Ours is probably more reliable...

PoliceOne survey shows broad support for CCW, thumbs down on ‘buy backs’

....PoliceOne.com released the results of a nationwide survey of about 15,000 active duty and retired law enforcement officers showing that an overwhelming majority support concealed carry laws, and think gun “buy-back” programs do not reduce crime.

Put that in your bong and smoke it.... ;):s0112:

Most gun owners aren't on sites like this, nor are most NRA members. Most are people like our fathers who own a 30-30 or a shotgun and use them to hunt. Even a large number of those probably haven't hunted in years and the guns just sit in a closet somewhere. People like "us" are gun enthusiast and are probably a very small portion of actual gun owners.

It's funny but it seems like no one here wants to recognize the mountain they have to climb. The rest of the world does not think like the average gun enthusiast. Most of them are fearful of the idea of guns. We have an uphill battle convincing these people, and it won't help to think of them as stupid. We are going to have to find a way to talk to folks. Creative ways like what PhonMan did. It does no good to sit here and discuss how dumb everyone else is, with people who agree with you. We need to inform people, increase understanding of our point of view, so that folks will be less fearful, and help us.

Think of it more from their perspective: Let's talk about making bread! Not to many people here are probably interested in baking bread. But what if it was very important to someone else (because Bloomberg wants to outlaw big-loafs with lots of carbs!!) to let you know how to bake bread, and how good fresh bread is? How should they approach you. How would you want them to talk to you (condescending? with respect?). Ok, maybe bread isn't the greatest example, but I hope you get the point. Now I'm hungry thinking about fresh bread and butter and need to go eat....

There is no need for 'them' or 'us' to understand one another. The only people that say they want 'understanding' are those that want compromise. To compromise a right is far worse than having a compromised position on the battlefield. You always have more troops & more land to maneuver with, a right is lost by any little infringement. Yes it was lost a long time ago when a tyrannical government claimed you're not free to do as you like, you must check out with 'US' first before being afforded a right. This goes for anything, not just arms. Freedom of navigation & so many other rights that have been, made into privileges... To defeat the powers at be you have to ignore the demands of all that claim to be your authority (master) & do as 'you will'.

It does, with a 95% CL and a 3% CI.

I find that people that complain about this point so loudly don't understand statistics.

Just because a sample size doesn't make sense to you, doesn't mean it's not statistically (mathematically) valid.

Sample Size Calculator - Confidence Level, Confidence Interval, Sample Size, Population Size, Relevant Population - Creative Research Systems

Sorry, you can talk statistical theory all you want. A sample size of less than a couple thousand, from a small handful of states, can not represent the opinions of 300+ million Americans. Especially when the issue is something that's just not "yes/no", such as gun laws.

Obama pulls out all stops on guns; Grassley preps alternative

As President Barack Obama pulls out all the stops to push his gun control agenda, even using Air Force One to fly parents of Sandy Hook victims to lobby on Capitol Hill, the man who launched the first inquiry about Operation Fast and Furious more than two years ago may be poised to derail the president's runaway train.

I think the problem with the poll was the question that was asked.
"Do you support or oppose legislation that would require background checks for private gun sales and sales at gun shows?"
Here's the process
http://maristpoll.marist.edu/wp-con...mplete USA Morning Joe_Marist Poll Tables.pdf

The general nature of the question, I believe threw people off. Same problem as here in WA. No one considered the fee, sales tax, record keeping, delays etc. Everyone pretty much (except for people like us of course) just answered along the lines of "golly gee wise batman of course it would be good to make sure we didn't sell to a bad guy and gosh I'm sure the Government ought to be the ones to validate that" Okay I'm getting carried away.

Point is all people are stupid sometimes, Liberals are stupid all the time and it appears once and a while they statistically show up on a poll. Whether the poll is valid? How would you get 90% of Americans to agree on anything? It was taken via a phone call and many people – like us – slam the phone down when we here the words "poll".

Anyway, it's on hold for a while. I don't think 0 or Reid will drop it right away. They'll hope for another shooting (terrible to say) so they can drive it home. Our allies continue to be Biden, Pelosi and Schumer with the stupid comments they make.
