Pursuant to the passing of HB 1501 last session, RCW 36.28A was amended to include a new section 4. The new section mandates a report to the legislature regarding the number of denied firearms sales or transfers reported pursuant to the act. This report is due the legislature on or before December 31 of each year. This report is not available at the legislature web site, linked is FOIA response from WSP. 2017 Denied Firearms Transactions

I posted this in a PM to Caveman Jim and thought others may be interested in just the numbers.
Here is the relevant data.
>>>.
To date, 1,231 denied applications for the purchase or transfer of a firearm have been reported to
WASPC. WASPC has referred 152 reports to local law enforcement. Referrals occur when: the
applicant has multiple denials at one or more FFLs; a firearm was sold or transferred and the application
was subsequently denied (and the firearm had not been returned); the applicant has a Washington State
felony conviction; the applicant is the respondent in a Washington State Protective Order; and upon
FFL request. A weekly report of all denied transactions is also provided to local law enforcement upon
request.
49 individuals have made multiple attempts. 55 individuals have been denied purchase or transfer after
a firearm was sold or transferred. In 49 cases, the firearm had not been returned to the FFL at the time
of the report. To date 71 individuals were named in active protective orders.

There is some more blah blah blah but the aggregate numbers appear to show the law is working. Yet..... there is no report of false positives. I would surmise the difference between 1231 and 152 are mistakes. I don't know how to tell the good guys numbers who were wrongly reported. :( .

Directly from the letter;

"The report shall indicate the number
of cases in which a person was denied a firearms sale
or transfer, the number of cases where the denied sale or transfer was investigated for potential criminal
prosecution, and the number of cases where an arrest was made, the case was referred for prosecution, and a conviction was obtained."

In @whitney 's numbers, notice there is not one mention of a case investigated for potential criminal prosecution, none where an arrest was made, and certainly none where a conviction was obtained. Not picking on whitney, he just reported what was in the letter.

This law is working?? Not the conclusion I would have come to.
About 1080 people wrongly denied their rights.
No mention of how many of the "legitimate" denials were during purchase of a new firearm. They shouldn't be counted towards the new law since they would be denied by the Federally mandated BGC on ALL new gun purchases.
Not one single criminal caught, apparently none even actively pursued.
Of the 55 denied after the transfer, how many of them still obtained the gun legally (as far as the FFL is concerned) since the allotted time for doing the check had expired?? And the 49 that haven't returned the firearm, why aren't they being tracked down??
