So all my grouse hunting needs are met by .20 gauge 2 3/4 #7 1/2 or #6 shot.
However ... I was given two boxes of .20 gauge 2 3/4 magnum #4 shot.
Does anyone hunt with this load and what do you hunt with it?
Thanks,
Andy
#4 lead is a little stout for grouse. Long range pheasant or chukar on open country maybe. Jack rabbits. I shot grouse at close range with some #4 20ga once and it took it's head clean off lol.
I use that for pheasant hunting and it will make them fold real well when you connect, I body shot a rabbit and it was almost inedible.. it pulverized the little guy, I would say it would be quite a bit to stout for grouse. Home defense it wouldn't be bad
#4 is kind of odd for most bird hunting, Even as a duck load, it is under powered, while over powered for most else. Keep it for a defense load! I have the same problem with 16 gau. unless I don't care about demolishing something like rodents.
