This may be late but Im gonna chime in my two cents. My solution years ago to the 1911/9mm Problem, after buying and packing a Colt 9mm
1911 for awhile was this: (it seemed so logical it's a wonder it didnt seep into my head before) a small selection of Browning High Powers/GP35s/Grande Puissance 9mmP pistols. Browning, very similar in size and mechanics... aftermarket parts available, also quality manufacture. Just sayin.
