Can you (or someone else) explain the measurements you're demonstrating in those pics? And what that tool is?
Great looking rifle btw!! Good luck with your sale!
Both guages measure wear on the Lands.
Throat Erosion is caused by the combination of high temperature and presure from the propellant, and Muzzle Wear CAN BE from Improper and overly agressive use of the GI Sectional Cleaning Rod.
Also it is a normal sign of wear from use.

I would read the TE as closer to 4 than 5,
Which is still quite good, and the MW guage reads just under 2,
meaning it still has lots of life left an accuracy is good.

In theory a perfect New bore would guage 0
and 0.

WWII Bbls could have a 2 or a 3 TE and pass into assembly.

I had a NM Bbl on a NM rifle that had a TE of 7 and a MW of 2+ and it still cut into the previous bullet holes.
Methinks that the only folks that scrutinize these readings are my fellow anal-retentive collectors..;)

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Nibbs!

Any arsenal markings on the receiver leg? Picture is a bit dark to decipher, does the receiver appear to be repark'd or no?

There are no arsenal markings on the receiver leg. The receiver may have been reparkerized. It is a slightly lighter gray color than some of my other WWII rifles.

Bigdiggin
My Garand Guru Buddy was a US Marine who went up Hill 881,
and was relief at Khe San and Whey City during TET '68.
At 881 they tossed their new Mattel Toys when they jammed.
Later he found he could barter for Garands from the ARVNs and Not get tossed in the Brig.:):)
He fell in love w them.

He stuck the M1 Garand needle into my arm.:):);)

This rifle is A BARGAIN....
