Both guages measure wear on the Lands. Can you (or someone else) explain the measurements you're demonstrating in those pics? And what that tool is?
Great looking rifle btw!! Good luck with your sale!
Both guages measure wear on the Lands.
Throat Erosion is caused by the combination of high temperature and presure from the propellant, and Muzzle Wear CAN BE from Improper and overly agressive use of the GI Sectional Cleaning Rod.
Also it is a normal sign of wear from use.
I would read the TE as closer to 4 than 5,
Which is still quite good, and the MW guage reads just under 2,
meaning it still has lots of life left an accuracy is good.
In theory a perfect New bore would guage 0
and 0.
WWII Bbls could have a 2 or a 3 TE and pass into assembly.
I had a NM Bbl on a NM rifle that had a TE of 7 and a MW of 2+ and it still cut into the previous bullet holes.
Methinks that the only folks that scrutinize these readings are my fellow anal-retentive collectors..
Hope this helps.
Only trade interest is for a Colt competition (Series 70) or Gold Cup in 45 ACP with cash to even up.Trade interests? Or cash only?
