I like when someone says 'We register cars, license drivers and sometimes require driver training. Why can't we treat guns like cars?".

Other than the "Cars and driving are a privilege, guns are a right." reply, it just doesn't have the same impact as something like the below.

"Like cars then, if I keep my guns on my private property, then I shouldn't have to register them, need a license to use them or be required to have any training. So Yes, I'm for that."

Not a very strong retort due to follow up consequences. So, if they agree to you having unregistered, unlicensed and non trained firearms on your private property, they then, like cars, have every "right" to require any onerous regulations like registration stickers, annual fiunction tests, training licenses, etc if you take them off private property.

In my experience anti-gunners typically have underlying mental health issues so arguing with them is futile.

Most have an irrational fear of firearms so any logic squeezed into an emotional knee jerk reaction will add fuel to the fire.

I've decided to leave them alone for the most part. I also like to point out that their voting will make me a felon as I don't register, I won't and I never will. They will be responsible for making me being a felon overnight.

If I agreed with you , then we would both be wrong.... :D

Just kidding here.

My real reply is along the lines of :
If you want to own firearms , then do so...if not , then don't....Just don't make that decision for me.
And or :
Owning a car is a privilege....owning a firearm is a Right....which in the OP is somehow not to be counted...but I disagree with the premise that it does not have a "impact".

I use this:

Do you believe in God? Do you believe in the Gift of Life? Do you believe you should be able to protect that gift at all cost, with any tool available? DO you believe there is evil in this world? Do you believe that evil doesn't value your gift of life like you do? Why would you be willing to give up some of the most effective means to protect that gift of life? DO you love your wife and children, wouldn't you want to be able to protect them any way you could?
If you allow your self to be disarmed, what can you do to protect your self and your loved ones then?

The 2nd is NOT rules for the Government to enforce upon it's citizens, its rules for it's citizens to enforce upon the government, and in no place does the 2nd state anything about Guns, or other weapons, nor does it say anything about hunting! It also doesn't define What, when, where, why,, and how, you may be armed!

When they ask why do you carry a handgun?

Because I'm not expecting any trouble.
If I was then I'd carry a rifle.

Along the same lines.

Them "Why do you carry a handgun?"
Me "Because a police officer is too heavy."

But in all reality, trying to argue facts and logic to emotionally triggered soylent greenies is an exercise in futility.
"Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." ― Mark Twain

There is no point wasting energy on people that cannot grasp the concept of the second amendment, the right to self preservation or even the mindset of being prepared. In their heads they think the world is a magical utopia where evil, bad things never happen.

Unfortunately, in my conversations with those on the left most of their answers to those questions are "no". Their PC Marxist/Socialist platform doesn't allow for belief in God, the sanctity of life, good and evil, self defense, private property, the individual, objective truth, law, or justice.

Oh, I love getting into this with others. I say.....

"The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution allows me the RIGHT to keep and bear arms. There is no constitutional right for vehicles.

The constitution was written for a reason. When we fought for our independence from England, and WON, the first things the founding fathers did was sit down and write the Constitution.

Do you like the fact that you can say whatever you want without being arrested for it? Have you ever noticed what the very first thing the founding fathers wrote? Freedom of speech. This was because England rulers had a habit of executing anyone who spoke wrong of them. It was so important to have the freedom of speech that they made it the very first amendment.

The second amendment is the right to keep and bear arms. Do you know why? Because in England no one could have firearms to defend themselves against the monarchy, the Kings and Queens. If they didn't like what they saw, they executed you and your family. You had absolutely no way to defend yourself. The founding fathers thought that it was so important to be able to defend yourself against the rulers, that they wrote that second.

I am guessing the list goes in order of importance as what they fought against in the separation from the ruling Kings and Queens.

You like the fact that you should feel secure in your own home, right? Well, the fourth amendment is the right to be secure against any unreasonable search and seizure. In England they'd break down your door and take everything you had if they wanted to. The founders knew that it was important enough to list it 4th.

The 5th is that you do not have to answer any questions that can incriminate you. In England they would torture you until you told them what they wanted to know. It was the 5th most important thing that the founding fathers could think of.

The 6th most important thing was the right to a speedy trial. They would arrest you and hold you in jail forever. The founding fathers knew that this was not right and they made it the 6th most important thing.

Please understand that constitution was written for a reason. ALL of the Amendments are important to Americans. Not just some. Not just the ones that YOU think is important. ALL of them are important."

Usually the other person just shuts up…..

Is licensing, registration, and training required to vote? Is it required to procreate? No? Then go procreate with yourself, because you haven't registered, been trained, or received a license to have an opinion from your masters.

Q: Who is going to enforce gun laws?

A: The government.

Q: How will they enforce the gun laws?

A: Police.

Q: What will the police use to enforce the gun laws?

A: Warrants and raids.

Q: And?

A: And What?

Q: Force. The police will use force. They will use guns to enforce gun laws. Increasingly the only entity possessing guns will be the government. Think about it.

Depends on the anti-gun argument that is presented but for the cars one, your suggestions are fine. Couple points which you do touch on but didn't really develop. First, when driving a car makes it into the bill of rights, then they'd possibly have a point. Second, the driver's license is a license to operate a properly licensed vehicle within a publicly funded facility for vehicle use. If similar publicly funded areas were designated for firearms use, perhaps public shooting ranges, then it would similarly MAYBE be reasonable to require a range use license to use those facilities.

Any further comparison they want to make is likely going to be apples and oranges.

See above - I can take a car off my property without a license by simply transporting it. It's the use on publicly funded infrastructure that requires a license.

And I say, anyone who refuses to own a gun or learn to use a gun or allow others to own and learn to use a gun for the protection of life, is mentally ill, or unbalanced. Because they have somehow suppressed the natural survival instincts normal humans are equipped with.
