It's a very thin line we're walking here. Time after time, we've heard of people going off their rocker and going on a killing spree. In some of those cases, there were precursors, or even an outright discussion of intent. Different "reasons" for the actions were thrown against the wall to see what would stick. Blaming parents, Hollywood, and violent video games were the most popular. But in the end, someone saw or heard something that wasn't right, and there was inadequate action to prevent the tragedy.

Look, the kid posted pictures of guns and said that he was ready for school. It would have been irresponsible to not investigate. I agree that arrest was extreme and will have long lasting, negative consequences for the boy. He wasn't arrested for "thought crimes" as some suggest. They were investigating and went overboard. That's the bad part of the story here, not performing due diligence.
