Troy Alpha Battlerail issue

So I just picked one up and when I installed it it was loose. I am wondering if I need to use a Troy (or other comparable manufacturer's) barrel nut, since I have a YHM barrel nut right now. Other possibility is that I need to install the barrel, gas block and gas tube before the rail will work. I was testing it on my TM upper with the YHM barrel nut on there, and I thought it should work even without the rest since it clamps to the barrel nut and is free floating. Could be wrong. Not likely of course, but it has happened before [emoji12]

I have a Troy rail on one of my rifles but it is not the Alpha. Only issue I had was it did not line up with the upper very well. I had to shim the rail up just a little bit. I also used a different barrel nut and not a Troy.
