...Because they didn't know there was a law.
FIFY
Possible I guess. An AMAZING number of gun owners pay zero attention to what the hell is going on around them. Some fool who really did not know? I doubt AG will be interested in making an example of.Look how many come to the new to scream about some "new gun law" they just found out about that is years old?
What I am talking about is people who know the law are going to be asking this same question over and over again about going and buying. Some idiot will knowingly go buy a bunch and tell everyone who will listen to him he did it. Most who do not work in or close to law enforcement really do not see how stupid so many criminals are. How many people who get in a bind did it to themselves. It can be amazing to see it. The first one the AG goes after will be one of the mouth breathers who tell on themselves.

There are a LOT of idiot criminals that seem to go out of their way to make Cops jobs easy.
I would say that they probably are not criminals even though they technically committed a crime.

Yes, there are a lot of idiots out there, not just criminals, but I kind of doubt there are enough who do this and would get caught at it. My bet is 99% of LEOs would just let it pass.

They way you are talking is EXACTLY how these idiots sound when they are in tears in front of some black robe. They know full well they are violating a law, do it anyway. Then when caught act shocked to find out when you commit a felony you are a criminal. There was a thread going about a slob who was playing with NFA stuff and is now going to do time. He was not a criminal either. He can tell himself that every day for the next year or so till he gets out of prison. "I am not a criminal" Hey if it makes it easier for them? Why not. :s0092:
You are right a hell of a lot of people will get away with it. A hell of a lot of people play with NFA stuff and get away with it. Now and then they make an example out of one. All adults are welcome to make life choices. An amazing number of them want me to feel bad for them when they get in a bind.

The NFA is a federal law, and the ATF has a erection every time they even think about catching someone violating it, not to mention stings and entrapment. Then you get sent to a federal pound me in the posterior prison when they do catch you.

That is a bit different.

Hmmmm….

I'm thinking a classic '70s movie remake. Instead of bootlegging Coors to Atlanta, Bandit and Snowman haul a trailer load of standard capacity magazines into Washington.

The possibilities are endless…
"Westbound and Up" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

I see both scenarios in the future.

My fear about this scheme (i.e. magazine limits and/or AW bans)........ is that the state (including the Feds) wants to make new laws all the time. Yes, I believe that the intent of these new laws is to turn more Americans into CRIMINALS. If not immediately. Perhaps, in a short while or a few more years. There is no signs that they'll ever stop. Think of : incremental creep/mission creep.

Give them an inch and they'll take a yard.

PS.....STUPID is all over our Govt.

.....after they "confiscate" the contraband, which could easily run into the hundreds of dollars. Then you will likely be let off the hook with a verbal warning. Unless you are in the right circle of friends, I really don't see the LEO letting you drive off with illegal mags that you just "imported" across state lines.

One of these idiots will proudly tell on themselves. If they have a box of new mags and some LEO asks they will say they just bought them. Probably will have the receipt in the box. Failing that they will head to work and tell anyone who will listen to them what they did and offer to sell the mags. There are a LOT of idiot criminals that seem to go out of their way to make Cops jobs easy. No one is going to get "caught" doing this. The example will be those who wave a sigh saying "BUST ME,OVER HERE". I will have trouble shedding a tear for the first one who goes out of his way to get in trouble.
Boy howdy that's the Real Truth, right there! I've seen how that works in real life.. Seems like many criminals arent too smart and are "Hung by the tongue" as a friend used to say...

RE : Incremental creep/Mission creep

First they came for the Socialists Hi-cap magazines, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist had no Hi-cap magazines.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists Semi-automatic firearms, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist had no Semi-automatic firearms.

Then they came for the Jews shotguns, rifles and revolvers, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew did not own a shotgun, rifle or revolver.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me real weapons left to put up a fight with.

I don't see most LEOs knowing or caring

This law passing was just political and possibly security theater

The speed limit sign doesn't physically prevent people from going faster than the speed limit, but the sign coupled with an occasional traffic ticket being written keeps 98% of people in line.

Do the police know people are going faster than the speed limit? Yes. Do they care? Not really, as long as they have 98% compliance.

How many people do you know are going to drive across state lines to purchase a magazine? It's going to be a very, very small number. When Oregon passed their UBC law, every private party purchase I had afterward took place at an FFL (100% compliance) vs. before UBC when no private party purchase I made ever happened at an FFL.

Y'all make it way to easy for LE if you're getting caught exercising constitutional rights.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. Keep your mouth shut. Don't volunteer anything you don't legally have to. Just because they wear a badge doesn't mean you have to volunteer information…..

Now if you're rolling around (in the car/open carry….) with prohibited items in plain view (plain view doctrine) then I don't feel bad that you got burned. If you offer up info or allow them to search your vehicle/person and you get burned I don't feel bad for you.

Use your head. Be a quality citizen. You have nothing to stress about. Don't give them a reason to look at you. Be invisible. Life is easier that way.

None of this should be taken as "legal advice" obviously…..
