I don't get "Model 7" (learn me) ....why not Model 700 ?
Everything else I'm on board with.

Smaller, lighter, more handy version of the 700 series, some would say better for the small ( Short Action .308 ) calibers, especially in the pre war styles!
If one were wanting a Carbine bolt action, the model 7 would be an awesome rifle to have!

The only deer I hunt are coastal blacktail. I'd barely call it hunting but in the past I've been happy with my model 700s chambered in 308. Now that I'm not as willing to go hip deep in slash and billy goat around, I've shortened up my range and I'm toying around with a 700 chambered in 300 BO this season. So I'm sure any shooter that pops up will be just far enough away to get a free pass.
